Student Learning Outcomes Assessment Plan General Education Courses: Psychology Learning Outcomes: Students will demonstrate the ability to: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 Recognize, describe and explain social institutions, structures, and processes and the complexities of a global culture and diverse society. Think critically about how individuals are influenced by political, geographic, economic, cultural, and family institutions in their own and other diverse cultures and explain how one’s own belief system may differ from others. Explore the relationship between the individual and society as it affects the personal behavior, social development and quality of life of the individual, the family and the community. Examine the impact of behavioral and social scientific research on major contemporary issues and their disciplines’ effects on individuals and society. Using the most appropriate principles, methods, and technologies, perceptively and objectively gather, analyze, and present social and behavioral science research data, draw logical conclusions, and apply those conclusions to one’s life and society. Take ethical stands based on appropriate research in the social and behavioral sciences. Analyze and communicate the values and processes that are used to formulate theories regarding the social context of individual human behavior in the social and behavioral sciences. Courses from this discipline that must be assessed: PSYC 1030 Introduction to Psychology PSYC 2130 Developmental Psychology: Lifespan Assessment Action Items - The following steps must be completed to assess each course: 1. Assessment Plan Development and Approval – Develop a plan, modify or continue with existing plan for assessing the required outcomes in every section of the course offered during the semester that the data will be collected. Submit new plans or modifications for approval by October 1st of each required year. All courses listed above should have assessment plans approved during the first 3 years of the cycle. 2. Data Collection – Collect student work to be reviewed. 3. Analysis of Findings and Identification of Improvement Strategies – Submit a report which explains the findings of the assessment exercise and provide a plan to improve any areas of weakness identified. 4. Progress Report on Improvement Strategies – Submit a narrative report describing the progress made on the improvement strategies identified. Required Reporting – During the 5 year cycle the following reports are required: 1. Assessment Timetable – Distributed and established with any necessary revisions by September 15th of each year. 2. Plan Development – New plans and modifications must be submitted for approval by October 1st of each required year. To ensure that all assessment action items are completed during the 5 year cycle, all plan development reports should be submitted during the first 3 years of the cycle. 3. Analysis of Findings and Identification of Improvement Strategies – To be submitted with the Level I Program Review each year that this action item is included in the timeline. 4. Progress Report on Improvement Strategies – To be submitted with the Level I Program Review each year that this action item is included in the timeline. 5. Report forms for these reports will be posted on the Program Review website and approved timelines and plans for each program will be posted to this website after they are approved.
