It's certainly true that students are
becoming, uh-- Taking on the teacher role with
the new-age tech-- Technology. Uh, from the
use of the phones, I know, I'm constantly
saying, "How do I get to this p-- Uh, part of
my phone?" and they go, "Sir, that's so easy,"
and--

And there they go and they show you some
function you didn't even know existed.
Because, you give them something new, they're
instantly exploring it, every possibility of
what it can do.

Particularly with things like, um, I know
with, uh, things like Skype and-- And how to
connect up and dial up overseas and the social
networking skills that the kids, uh, know make
it so easy for them to communicate to a mass
audience within-- Within seconds.

They do Mathletics, which is a kind of an
online mathematics game. But you can do a lot
more than just that, um, communicating with
each other or-- Or-- Or networking...

...uh, across the globe with schools, um, in
sister classrooms or whatever. They've got the
potential now, not just to do the
teleconferencing but Skypeing on your phone.
You could, conceivably, um, set up a scenario
with another school overseas, and say, “Okay,
we're going to have this kid on Skype on the
phone or we might be able to connect them to a
speaker.” So there's that-- There’s a huge
potential to liberate the classroom on that
kind of almost, a global scale.

I think it’s really important to listen to the
students when it comes to developing, uh,
policies to do with, um, using the internet
and using online resources, because
ultimately…

Well, our school is known as one of those
schools that doesn't tolerate bullying...

...at all. So, straightaway, something has to
be done about it. But you need proof of what's
been said and what's happened. Like, you need

STUDENT TWO
If there is, like, a group that is being
bullied, or there's like, you know, two groups
at each other, we have an open forum, which I
think is really conducive to helping solve the
problem, because everyone gets to have their
say about what everyone's doing and what they
don't want to do. But not blaming people. Just
saying in an open, like, thing, that what
they're doing is wrong.
STUDENT TWO (CONT’D)
Well, I think it should be taught in schools.
It's not always, but it should be, um,
because, you know, like, there is, like-They-- It's real, it is going to happen, and
we need to know what to do when it does.

SSE
It's the same kind of buddy system you have
for bullying with the Year 7 matched with the
Year 10. All the same kind of infrastructure
they already have existing, um, can just be
adapted to this new cyber reality.
