White Music and poetry: Psalms Reading, writing, numbers: Learner Guides 10385NAT Diploma of Residential Health Education and Management This course teaches the fundamental principles, knowledge and skills to enable the graduate to set up and manage a small Health Education Centre (Sanitarium), to deliver holistic health education in a residential setting and to deliver natural preventive health education programs in the community Course content: 13 units SISFFIT527A Undertake health promotion activities to decrease risk factors and prevent chronic disease This unit teaches how to plan and deliver exercise to promote general health and wellbeing, and decrease risk factors and chronic disease. The unit outlines appropriate exercise levels within the context of public health recommendations on physical activity. Students will also learn to research the nutritional adequacy of a plant based diet and have the ability to teach the benefits of a plant based diet in the community. Students will also learn how to set up and maintain an organic garden and have the ability to share the principles and practices of organic gardening with others. The knowledge and skills gained, give a powerful opportunity to share the 8 Laws of Health, as given by God, with others. BSBPUB503A Manage fundraising and sponsorship activities This unit describes the ability to conduct and manage fundraising and sponsorship activities for a not-for-profit organisation. This is important for the financial support of health education and promotion activities in the residential centre and for programs delivered in the community. These activities bring us in contact with members of the community, which otherwise we may not have the opportunity to reach. 1 BSBREL402A Build client relationships and business networks This unit teaches what is required to connect with other health providers in the community, such as doctors, naturopaths, chiropractors and herbalists, to inform them of our ability to educate natural, holistic health. As effective relationships are built with these providers, we may have opportunities to deliver programs to their clients and would encourage referrals to our residential programs. It also gives us an opportunity to share our faith with people who also serve others through health. BSBFIM501A Manage budgets and financial plans This unit teaches the skills required to manage the administration and finances of a Health Education Centre and the delivery of public programs. These are a very important skills to ensure the viability of the organisation so that the professional management of our programs brings glory to God. HLTAP401B Confirm physical health status This unit of competency describes a detailed level of knowledge of anatomy and physiology. This is foundational to the knowledge and skills required to teach natural health and confirms God as our Creator and sustainer of life. The student will also learn the principles of healing, to understand how the body systems work and inter-relate, as well as the needs required from ‘outside’ the body for these systems to function correctly and establish homeostasis. The principles of immunology will also be understood. This involves the understanding of the structure and function of the immune system and its role in the protection and healing of the body. HLTSHU509C Maintain personal health awareness as a professional responsibility This unit covers the skills required for a health worker to maintain personal and professional health in order to effectively serve clients and to maintain professional integrity. It is very important that we live what we teach. This is the basis of truth and authenticity and establishes that what we live and teach, is the truth and can be trusted. CHCCSL501A Work within a structured counseling framework This unit teaches how to counsel people using the Bible. Isaiah referred to Christ as Wonderful Counsellor and this must be the foundation and centre of all counselling. HLTWHS501A Manage workplace WHS processes This unit specifies the safety requirements needed in a Health Education Centre and in the delivery of public programs. This is for protection of the participants and for those delivering the programs. 2 RHEHER501A Research safe use of herbs This unit describes the knowledge and skills required to understand, take responsibility for and provide advice regarding the safe use of herbs, to augment the function of the immune system. A limited range of commonly used herbs will be studied. RHEHOL502A Design and deliver a personalised, daily, holistic health program This unit describes the requirements for maintaining physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health. This unit deals with the practical application of the 8 Laws of Health, including Biblical health principles, to maintain optimum wellness. RHEHYD503A Promote hydrotherapy in a residential health education context This unit teaches the principles and practices of hydrotherapy. The hydrotherapy methods are taught to participants in a program so that they may practice them in their home, with the other health principles, to reverse disease and re-establish wellness. The student will also learn to understand and use natural remedies. Learners will develop a thorough understanding of the use of simple, safe remedies, including how and when to apply them. RHELED504A Design, deliver and review long-term lifestyle education programs This unit describes what is required to provide lifestyle education programs which support the application of the 8 Laws of Health, how they influence the physiology of the body and to apply the Laws to the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual aspects of the whole person. This unit also covers the influence culture, habits, addictions, conflict and stress have on health. RHERES505A Design, deliver and evaluate a comprehensive residential health education program This unit teaches students how to design, deliver, manage and evaluate a comprehensive health education program, incorporating individual health consultations and involving a wide range, depth and specialisation of content appropriate for the participant(s). By the end of this study, graduates will be confident to manage all aspects of residential programs. Delivery of training This Diploma course is delivered face to face, over one year or by distance education, over two years. Training will be offered through a combination of teacher led theory sessions and practical tasks. Distance education is delivered by eLearning. Weekly tutorials will be held in an on-line classroom. Most assessment will be achieved by written tasks and videoed practical sessions. Students will be expected to attend 2 residential block training sessions per year. 3 Assessment Assessment methods used in the Diploma course include a combination of written and practical assessments. Clear instructions are provided to the learner in an ‘assessment tasks’ book. Learners are required to complete written short answer tests as confirmation of understanding of the underpinning knowledge requirements for each unit. In some cases, written tasks may include responding to questions based on a case studies or scenarios that reflect examples in a residential or community program. Assessment of practical tasks is assessed by observation. Learners may be required to orally respond to questions as part of the observation process for practical assessments.
