It is a unique way for children from all of the Elementary classrooms to get to know one another. The camp is limited to an enrollment of 30 and campers participate in small groups – “montessaurus herds” – each led by a counselor and with a Jr. Counselor from Gaines Creek. One of the first activities of each group is to decide what kind of montessaurus herd they are and create a unique “herd environment” for their “dens.” Each herd creates a unique identity for itself based on a different dinosaur. Herds participate in camp programs together as well as gather together as a larger group. Camp Programs Science for Fun: This program brings science down to earth. We will observe scientific principles through a variety of activities such as cooking, dyeing and candle making. Creation Station: This program encourages creativity through arts and crafts in a community setting where children work individually and as a group. Theatre Arts: In this program, groups of children work together to create a performance, such as a play, a puppet show, and a musical number. Fun Friday: The final day for both camp sessions is held Zilker Park where we play team building games, picnic, hike, swim at Barton Springs pool, and tour the splash exhibit. Outdoor Activities: Outdoor activities and games encourage physical activity through a variety of outdoor activities. Camp Staff Mandy Weeks has worked at Austin Montessori for 12 years, both as a Classroom Assistant, Commons Leader and Commons Director. A former first grade teacher, she has taught swimming, art, science and a variety of other subjects. She is a graduate of The University of Texas with a major in English and a minor in Psychology. Mandy plays the mandolin (beginner), and has extensive training in music theory and voice, as well as ceramics, painting and textile arts. This is her seventh year as a counselor at Camp Montessaurus and will be exploring the fun side of science with the children. Lynn Hunt As a native Austinite, Lynn was excited to become a part of the Montessori movement. She started working with children as a teenager and knew she had found her calling. She is a lover of art and teaching. Lynn is going in to her fourth year at AMS, and is currently the Casita Leader at Great Northern. 1 In addition: Margarita Ruiz, Nick Pippins, Erin Cozart, Monse Alvarado-Ruiz, Adriane Pippins, Toto Miranda and Casey Neumann will be joining us as Counselors this year. All of these counselors have a long time affiliation with the school either as staff or alumni and we are excited to have the opportunity to share this final year with them. In addition to our counselors we have 3-4 assistants per session that we hire from the Austin Montessori School Adolescent Community or long time campers who have been invited to become a Jr. Counselor. 2 Session Dates and Costs Session 1: July 1,2,3,5 Session 2: July 8-12 Session 3: July 15-19 Camp hours: Monday- Friday 8:30 – 4:30 p.m. Fees: Registration fee $100 Total Tuition for Sessions 1 before April 1st $205 Total Tuition for Sessions 1 after April 1st $230 Total Tuition for Sessions 2 & 3 before April 1st $235 Total Tuition for Sessions 2 & 3 after April 1st $260 Camp sessions are limited to 30 students, so register early. Deposit: A $100.00 deposit for each session is required at the time of registration. Balance is due, in full, on or before June 17, 2013. Make checks payable to: Austin Montessori School. Cancellation policy: prior to May 1st, 50% of deposits for cancelled camp registrations will be refunded. After May 1st, deposits are nonrefundable. After June 17th (when the full balance of camp tuition has been received) refunds will be given only in emergency situations.
