ACP 2015 Goals
By ACP Members at Annual Planning Meeting February 20th, 2015;
documented by Dan Noble, ACP Executive Director
ACP continue its emphasis on ACP’s mission to “…work and invest together to increase compost
markets…”. Devote the following amount of time and effort by ACP staff, leadership and members in
four key areas of actualizing ACP’s mission (percent effort of staff time shown in parentheses):
ACP Management & Collaboration (25%) – Continuing to manage the association:




Monthly Member Meetings – shorter agenda, more engaging meetings
New Member Development – Create specific targets, one new member per month
ACP Newsletter – Monthly Constant Contact updates
ACP Administration and Management – including monthly bookkeeping, rework By Laws, dues
invoices and tracking
Compost Market Development (50%) – Lead and collaborate with ACP members in 2015 to:
1. Quarterly Workshops – Work with Institute for Local Government to produce 5 workshops (25%):
i. Southern California - Los Angeles
ii. Northern and Central California – Bay Area
iii. Sacramento – ACP 2nd Annual California Compost Summit
2. CalRecycle – Work with Calrecycle leadership and staff to support compost market expansion (10%)
i. Turn Compost Market Barriers into Opportunities – compost quality definitions & methods
ii. Compost Market Expansion Initiatives – State purchasing, promotion and market intel
3. Outreach & Promotion – Work with members to implement new and reoccurring programs (10%):
i. International Compost Awareness Week – implement state chapter activities:
 Promote USCC ICAW Poster Contest, Sponsorship and Tool Kit with Members,
 Promote Proclamations at all levels of government (esp. State, and County)
ii. Support Materials coordinate, distribute and make available support materials:
 Compost Presentations – member’s only presentation bank on ACP website
 Soil & Water Connection – book with back up presentations
 Brochure Templates – Word or Publisher templates for members to use
iii. Speakers Bureau Presentation Scheduling for ACP members in their respective markets:
 Speaking engagements given by members at professional associations and clubs
 Speaking engagements by ED at conferences
iv. Articles – write and get published articles for trade and other professional publications
Legislative & Regulatory Scanning and Input (15%) – Use Leg-Reg activities in 2015 to reduce barriers
to compost production and use, and expand compost markets. To be led by ACP’s retained lobbyist,
Kathy Lynch of Lynch & Associates, and will include




Lobby as directed, attend meetings as directed
Write letters as directed
Research Grant Projects (10%) – Grant activities will include at least the following in 2014:



Prop 84/SDCWA-Sustainable Landscape (complete by Fall 2015)
DWR Water-Energy Grant, and 11th Hour Project grant
Proposals for new grants (pending

ACP Marketing Program:
As outlined above, the new 2015 ACP Compost Marketing Program is designed to exclusively support
ACP Supporting Members in good standing. It is comprised of four integrated elements:
1. Lead Generation System that is available to ACP ‘members only,’ using a combination of the
Exec. Dir. email database, as well as promotional relationships with other government agencies
and associations, listed below). Rank and distribute leads to members in each county area in
California. Leads will include at least the following professional categories:
a. Municipal (city & county) Policy makers/staff, City Managers, Public Works,
Environmental Quality. Landscape Architects and Landscape Contractors (including
parks and schools) and Solid Waste Staffs who handle organic residuals (esp. Calif State
Association of Counties, League of California Cities, California Contract Cities, Institute
for Local Government and CUWCC)
b. Agricultural owners and groups – California Resource Conservation Districts, UC
Cooperative Extension, California Agricultural Commissioners, California Farm Bureau
Federation, Biosecurity
c. Caltrans landscape specifiers in each district
d. Landscape Architects, Designers and Contractors
e. Large Landscape and groups
2. Compost Standards & Use Working Groups & Workshops Presentations sponsored by ACP
members and/or with other associations, delivered around the state

3. Support Material crafting to include at least:
a. “Compost & Healthy Soil Benefits” PowerPoint presentation(s) that includes the
benefits of building healthy soil with compost and also includes STA, compost quality,
and methods for specifying, buying and using compost.
b. Brochures that ACP members can modify with their own logo and contact information
that support the presentation.
c. Compost Samples provided by the individual ACP member from their own compost
sources.
4. Speakers Bureau Presentation Scheduling by ACP staff to have specific ACP members give a
presentation to one of the key professional prospect categories a decision maker(s) within the
Lead Generation System.
