Team Policies and Rules
Players will be expected to abide by the following policies/rules:
Do nothing that would embarrass the team or one’s teammates.
Adhere to all Edina High School policies as well as specific standards established by the coaching staff.
Attend class.
Sleep and eat properly.
Be on time to practices and games.
Personally communicate directly with coaches about any potential missed practice, games, or any other issues.
Varsity Players - If a player is not performing well in class he will attend mandatory study hall sessions after
practice while under the supervision of someone on the coaching staff.
8. All Players – Coaches will be checking attendance each day if players have an unexcused absence they will not be
allowed to practice and or play in a game.
Consequences that are not related to EHS or MSHSL policies will be dealt with on a one-on-one basis by the coaching
staff.

EHS Registration
Before players are allowed to tryout they are required to have all Registration materials filled out and submitted to the
Activities Office. Registration can be completed online at www.edinaschools.org/registration and a list of all items needed
to complete can be found there as well. If a player’s registration is not complete, he will not be able to tryout and will not
be given extra tryout days.
Practice Schedule and In-season Strength Training – Times and Location
The Varsity/JV practice daily on non-gamedays from 3:45 to 6pm – this timeframe includes weight training and film on
select days. Practices occur in the ECC Large Gym.
The Sophomore team practices from 3:45-5:30pm in the ECC City Gym. The teams may also practice on Saturdays
during the morning and/or early afternoon.
The Freshman Team practices are 3:30-5:30pm. Both teams – Freshman A and B – practice together at Southview
Middle School, they each have a separate game schedule.
Both Freshman teams and the Sophomore team will strength train with their coach on select days throughout the week.

Tryout Dates
Freshman Tryouts
November 4th-6th – 3:30-5:30pm
Sophomore Tryouts
November 11th-13th - 3:30-6:00
Varsity/ JV Tryouts
November 11th-13th – 3:30-6:00
Tryout Policies, Schedule, and Evaluation Criteria
In order to reduce undue stress on the players, parents and family members may not observe in any way and or video
tape the tryout sessions. All players who were on the varsity roster last year, regardless of grade, attend the varsity
tryout. Any other player should start the first day with their grade level.


If injured or you have an excused absence from school on a tryout date, then extra tryout days will be
given – one day given for each missed. If you know you are going to miss a tryout date- please call
Coach Burger at 612-237-9694.
Make-up tryout dates will be not be given for unexcused absences from school.
Tryout Criteria:
1. Basketball Skills – Shooting, Ball Handling, Passing, Defense
2. Grade level balance
3. Inside and Outside player balance
4. Sportsmanship
Transportation
Students must receive approval by their coach if they are riding to or from away games with their parents. If an adult other
than a parent or guardian are driving a player home, parents will need to fill out a Driver Release Form found on the
Activities website. Forms must be returned to the Activities Office before the event.
Rosters
Varsity – 12-18 players
Sophomore – 10-12 players
Freshman – Total of 18-22 players
Lettering Criteria
All varsity players who are on the Section Playoff roster at the end of the season will letter.
Uniforms/Practice Gear/Travel Gear
Game uniforms will be issued for each team by the school.
As part of this year’s Basketball Assessment fee, all players in the program will be issued practice gear and are required
to wear the matching set for every practice.
Travel Gear will also be issued as part of the assessment.
Assessment Cost
$200 made payable to Edina Boys Basketball. This fee covers practice and travel gear that players will get to keep, as well
as other costs accrued throughout the season. This fee will not be collected until teams are formed. Please feel free to
