Colonization
By the end of this unit, students will be able to:
Describe how the values and institutions of European economic, religious and political life took root in the colonies
and how slavery reshaped European and African life in the Americas. Students will focus on the economic
characteristics and social developments of the New England, Middle, and Southern colonies, understanding social and
cultural change in British North America. Students will also understand how the development of indentured servitude
and slavery influenced European and African life in the colonies.
Objective 1: Understand how religion shaped the founding of the Northern colonies.
Objective 2: Compare the founding of the Northern colonies to that of Jamestown and the other
Southern colonies.
Closing Activity: Processing terms and people into categories.
