2211 Willamette Street Eugene, OR 97405 JOB DESCRIPTION POSITION: Hospital Services Supervisor DEPARTMENT: Hospital Services REPORTS TO: Director, Hospital Services JOB CLASSIFICATION: Exempt, Full Time JOB SUMMARY: The Hospital Services Supervisor (HSS) is responsible for: Management of the component laboratory operations, including the modification of donated units of whole blood into products for hospitals, overseeing the scheduling, training and competencies of the Component Technicians, the Lead Component Tech and the Laboratory/Delivery Assistant Researching, developing and maintaining SOPs and other key records according to regulations; performs validations as required Product quality control and equipment quality control and maintenance Reviewing and processing of test results and management of blood inventory. All duties will be performed in accordance with the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB) Standards, the FDA Regulations and according to current Good Manufacturing Practices. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Manage the component laboratory operation, including overseeing the scheduling, training and competency evaluations of Component Technicians and Laboratory/Delivery Assistant 2. Ensure that blood components are processed to meet inventory needs within time lines, as required 3. Monitor specimen processing and shipment to the testing laboratory as needed 4. Assure that labeling of blood products is performed in a timely manner 5. Manage blood and component discards 6. Monitor quality control checks of components and department equipment 7. Qualify and validate Hospital Services equipment; take corrective action appropriate for any malfunctioning equipment; ensure that all equipment is maintained in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations and LBC operational requirements. 8. Process test results in preparation for labeling: a. Quarantine products b. Process reactive test files c. Perform look backs and recalls 9. Perform daily blood inventory duties: o Monitor component and blood types needed o Maintain adequate supplies at the transfusion services o Meet the needs of our shipping contracts 10. Observe all safety precautions and perform all duties using current Good Manufacturing Practices and according to the blood banks SOPs. 12. Review the American Association of Blood Banks, (AABB) Standards, the AABB Technical Manual, and the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) regularly, to ensure processes are being performed as required. Update Hospital Services Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), as necessary, to maintain accuracy. Review SOP’s yearly. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 13. Serve as an on-call employee to meet specific personnel requirements, when needed 14. Perform other duties as required. QUALIFICATIONS: B.S. degree in biologic sciences, or equivalent experience Two to four years’ professional or management experience in a clinical laboratory science or blood bank hospital services setting A minimum of two years supervisory experience Technical writing experience in the development of procedures and training materials Intermediate computer proficiency, including Word and Excel Analytical ability to identify and solve problems promptly and effectively Project management experience Leadership skills to effectively manage and motivate staff, deal proactively with performance problems and build a collaborative team Meticulous in working and recording data Ability to work collaboratively with associates Effective communication, leadership and organizational abilities Current driver's license with good driving record Note: A blood bank vehicle will be provided for all deliveries/pick ups; privately owned vehicles will not be used under normal circumstances.
