Library ICC Purpose Students will learn the computer skills, procedures, terminology and codes of conduct necessary to successfully complete college-level coursework at Lewis-Clark State College (LCSC). Computer skills will include, but not be limited to, using networks/browsers (LCSC and Internet), word processing, using spreadsheets, creating PowerPoint presentations, using LCMail, understanding and using WarriorWeb functions, understanding/navigating databases, and navigating/using BBLearn. Students will learn how computer technology can be used to support independent, life-long learning. Course Objectives By the end of the course students will be able to independently: 1. Maintain computer security, personal privacy, and an appropriate code of conduct while using computers to complete coursework at LCSC. 2. Log on to the LCSC secure network and navigate both the LCSC website and the Internet using various browsers. 3. Log into LCMail to read, compose and respond to email, and understand email etiquette and appropriate formatting. 4. Access WarriorWeb, navigate the site, and learn how to use the various tools and functions. 5. Use word processing software to format, save and print research papers and other documents needed to complete LCSC college coursework. 6. Use formatting and editing functions within and between multiple programs. 7. Understand/use Microsoft Office 2010 Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. 8. Understand/use databases. 9. Understand both PC and Apple operating systems and programs. 10. Use BBLearn to complete college coursework assignments. Document1, Author, Kate Schalck -2- Method of Instruction Students are required to attend computer lab classes. Lessons will include hands-on instruction and in-class activities, with an emphasis on skills needed to prepare assignments for classes. Each lab class will require completing an exercise in class. Arrangement to complete missed work will be determined and made on a case by case basis. Some assignments may be submitted through BBLearn. Course Evaluation SD 096 is graded as pass/fail. Students are required to attend at least 70% of the labs and submit assignments to pass the class. I will return incomplete or inadequate assignments and students will be required to revise the work to receive credit. If any auxiliary aids or services are needed for individuals with disabilities, i.e. interpreters, readers, etc., please contact me as soon as possible. If you experience a medical issue during the term, please let me know as soon as possible. Classroom Rules In addition to the LCSC institutional “Student Code of Conduct”, the following rules apply to my class: 1. You are responsible for your own actions. 2. All students have the right to be here and the right to learn. Classroom Policies and Procedures 1. Cell phone use is not allowed in class, unless it is directly related to the coursework. 2. Academic dishonesty in any form will not be tolerated and may result in failing the course. 3. Accidents/Student Insurance Document1, Author, Kate Schalck -4Students participating in LCSC classes normally must look to their personal health insurance policy (Student Health Insurance Plan or comparable private coverage) should an accident occur. In the event of an accident, please seek medical help, if necessary, and report the incident to LCSC Security (7922226). Fieldtrips or other special student activities may also require students to submit a signed participation waiver (forms can be obtained from the supporting Division Office). Enrollment Verification/Attendance Students who are not actively pursuing their classes may have to repay part or all of their financial aid awards depending upon the circumstances. Academic Dishonesty Academic dishonesty, which includes cheating and plagiarism, is not tolerated at LCSC. Individual faculty members will impose their own policies and sanctions regarding academic dishonesty. Students who are accused of being academically dishonest may be referred to the VP for Student Affairs for official disciplinary action. Illegal File Sharing Students using LCSC’s computers and/or computer network must comply with the college’s appropriate use policies and are prohibited from illegally downloading or sharing data files of any kind. Specific information about the college’s technology policies and its protocols for combating illegal file sharing may be found on the VP for Student Affairs’ web page (http://www.lcsc.edu/student-affairs/student-code-ofconduct/ ).
