Program: All About Fibers with Teresa Knutson
Please Note: Kristine Kerry is in charge of AWSG Outreach and is planning for the
guild to demonstrate at the Kalispell Mini Maker Faire which is a large show and tell
for Kalispell. At no charge we are invited to help the community explore and learn
what it is like to weave or spin. So far the Kalispell library is supplying their large
loom for the public to use. We are looking for both spinners and weavers to take on 2
to 3 hour shifts to demonstrate the following: spinning, inkle weaving, drop spindle
making and spinning, big loom weaving, etc. The fair will be held at the A&T building
on the FVCC Campus on Saturday, February 28, 2015 from 10a.m.-3 p.m. If you are
interested in participating please contact Kristine at krjkerry@aol.com or 406-8623757
Please Note: Flathead Lake Camp Work and Play Retreat
To help defray costs for all attendees to the MAWS 2016 Conference, Fibers on the
Flathead, the Flathead Lake Camp has offered us an opportunity to save a substantial
amount of money on the rental of the facility. AWSG members and MAWS members,
their spouses and friends are invited to the camp for up to three days, May 14-16,
2015. Ten to 12 people per day doing spring cleaning and other maintenance tasks
would reduce the rent by $1000. Volunteers are asked to sign up in advance and to
provide a list of skills, such as carpentry, chain saw, painting, and grounds work.
Volunteers are welcome to stay in the cabins at the camp at no charge, bringing their
own bed linens and towels. Sleeping is bunkroom-style with single mattresses. All
cabins have kitchens, so meals will be potluck. Some RV sites are also available with
electrical hookups but not water or septic. The camp has a dock and beach front for
kayaking or canoeing after work hours, as well as comfortable living areas for
spinning, weaving, knitting or just socializing. Go to www.flatheadcamp.org to
check it out.
If you can join us for all or part of May 14-16, 2015, please contact Joan Goldstein at
hjgolds@hotmail.com or Carole Baginski at 406-890-0199.
We will be honoring the following rules of the camp:
NO ALCOHOL OR DRUGS ARE ALLOWED AT THE CAMP
This includes medical marijuana.
NO PETS, EXCEPT FOR SERVICE ANIMALS, ARE ALLOWED ON THE CAMP GROUNDS.
NO SMOKING IN OR NEAR CAMP BUILDINGS
The designated smoking area is in the parking lot, in a personal vehicle.
Do not put cigarette butts on the ground.
FLUMC IS A WEAPONS-BULLYING-HARASSMENT FREE ZONE.
CAMPERS CLEAN THE CABINS IN WHICH THEY STAY.
GUILD ACTIVITIES
Guild Meeting Project: Everyone shared and worked on projects. Joan Goldstein
was working on the guild inkle loom for a demonstration at FVCC.
Show & Tell:
 Linda Christensen made linen washcloths for next Christmas and was working on
an inkle band she designed.
 Sylvia Smith showed off socks made by her mother Emily Ewert. Emily was
working on a pair of socks made with the leftover yarn from socks made for both
her daughters. She names all the socks she makes.
 Teresa Knutson showed a beautiful Pendleton wool coat lined with flannel made
from wool given to the guild several years ago.
 Kristine Kerry brought a gorgeous hand quilted quilt and a wall hanging.
 Shirley Sullivan also brought a beautiful quilt she spent two years making for a
granddaughter.
 Carole Baginski brought a very practical wrist magnet strong enough to hold small
tools while weaving, spinning, etc. Carole also showed a beautiful wrap bracelet
she made with directions from youtube.
 Judie Overbeek showed her Krokbrod rug made from pink wool given to her that
she overdyed. She also had a shrug knitted from wool from a Jacob sheep in three
colors with some overdyed in red.
 Ann Keenan brought a goat hide pillow she made out of her goat "Andrew".

Stephanie Daughtery showed her hand spun knitted lace scarf.
MINUTES
President Judie Overbeek called the meeting to order with 17 members present.
Susan Teigs was introduced as a new member just moving onto our area. Susan is a
weaver. Judie started the meeting by introducing the officers.
Minutes from November 2014 meeting were approved as printed in newsletter for
December 2014.
Committee Reports:
Library: Jill Reddig is working to inventory the library. There are many items not
listed and some items we may sell at guild meeting. There are also item from past
goodie bags needing to be preserved. A notebook will be made to contain these
items. Donna Carlson sent some extra handwoven magazines to sell.
Outreach: Kristine Kerry needs volunteers for a show and tell demonstration at FVCC
on 02/28/2015. Maybe 2 spinners and 2 weavers. A big loom will be there for the
public to use. She will bring braid kits and drop spindles.
ANWG: Teresa Knutson said the next ANWG newsletter will be out by the end of
January 2015.
2016 MAWS Conference: Joan Goldstein had the pre-conference contract signed
and ready to send back to the camp. The logo is done and bookmarks reviewed with
changes agreed on. The instructors list was gone over and final selections will be
made in April. A volunteer list was again passed around. (Minutes of the meeting are
in the next section and the ad submitted to the MAWS website is at the end of the
newsletter.)
New Business:
A thank you letter was received from Kent.
A lone binder for the yearly inserts was found. Linda Christensen made a motion that
the guild provide binders to all new members. The motion was seconded, there was
discussion and the motion passed.
Judie adjourned the meeting.

RECIPES
Here is the recipe for the Easy Italian Herb Focaccia Bread Shirley Sullivan brought
to the Christmas party.
3-1/4 cups unsifted all-purpose flour
1-2/3 cups very warm water (120-130 degrees)
1 envelope rapidrise yeast
2 Tablespoons shredded or grated parmesan cheese
1 Tablespoon sugar
1 Tablespoon Italian herb seasoning
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil, divided
Mix flour, undissolved yeast, sugar and salt in a large bowl. Add 2 Tbsp olive oil
and water, stirring until well mixed.
Spread dough into greased 13x9 pan. Cover. Let rise until doubled, about 30
minutes.
Poke multiple holes into the dough using the handle of a wooden spoon. Drizzle
2 Tbsp. of olive oil over the dough, sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and Italian
herb seasoning. Cover. I use grated cheese.
Let rise an additional 15 minutes while oven preheats to 375F.
Bake 30 to 35 minutes until lightly browned. Cool slightly and cut into slices,
serve warm. If desired, serve with additional olive oil for dipping.
Here is the Grape-Nuts® Oatmeal Cranberry Cookies recipe Emily Ewert brought
to the January spinners meeting:
1 1/2 cups flour
1tsp baking soda
1 1/2 cups (3 sticks) margarine
2/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar
2/3 cup granulated sugar
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
2 cups Post Grape-Nuts Brand cereal
2 cups quick cooking oats
1 cup dried cranberries or raisins
Heat oven to 375°.
Mix flour and baking soda in small bowl. Beat margarine in large bowl with
electric mixer on medium speed to soften. Gradually add sugars, beating until
light and fluffy. Beat in egg and vanilla. Gradually add flour mixture, beating
well after each addition. Stir in cereal, oats, and cranberries. Drop by rounded
tablespoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheets.
Bake 8 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool 1 minute; remove from cookie
sheets. Cool completely on wire racks. Makes 5 dozen cookies.
