Salary $60,105.83 - $75,071.96 annually The Ministry of Agriculture works to promote an innovative, adaptive and globally competitive agrifoods sector for the benefit of all British Columbians. The agrifoods sector- which includes agriculture, fisheries, aquaculture and processing - is an important and successful contributor to B.C.’s economy. The Pesticide Specialist is part of the Plant Health Unit responsible for protecting the capacity of B.C.’s agricultural land resource from the adverse impacts of plant pests through the delivery of the Plant Health Strategy. This position provides professional and technical support and advisory services on agricultural pesticides throughout the province. It is instrumental in the development of programs, policies, regulations and educational resources on pesticides that protect human and animal health and the environment, while also protecting industry competitiveness and the production of conventional and organic agrifoods and non-food crops. Qualifications for this role include: Master of Science Degree in a plant health related discipline such as weed science, entomology, plant pathology, pest management, or a related discipline (e.g. agriculture, plant science, horticulture, forestry, environmental science, toxicology) with at least five years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; registered, or eligible for immediate registration as a Professional Agrologist with the British Columbia Institute of Agrologists; and demonstrated knowledge and understanding of pesticides and pesticide use; and B.C.’s agriculture sector.
