Conrad Fitzgerald Academy School Prom Handbook Grade 12 Developed May 2008 Undated October 2014 Grade 12 Prom Alcohol and Drugs The graduation ceremonies are a drug and alcohol free event. In accordance will school policy there is to be no smoking anywhere on school property. Church Service The church service will be open to the general public with special accommodations for parents and grand-parents. Fundraising There are no fundraisers for the prom. The total cost is $5000.00 which will be divided equally among all graduates. Prom Eligibility Students who are in Level 3 are eligible to attend prom. Students are expected to be in excellent attendance at Conrad Fitzgerald Academy. Absence form school impacts the education experience and excessive absence from school almost always negatively affects student achievement. Therefore… The accumulation of 10 days unexcused from school will result in a meeting with the administration and possible removal from the prom edibility list. Agreement of Understanding Beginning with the class of 2009, all students and their parents/guardians will be asked to sign an Agreement of Understanding. This will help to ensure all individuals are aware of the graduation policies in the school. The Agreement of Understanding can be found at the end of this document. Budget Maximum budget for the grade 12 graduation is $5000.00. A written budget will be maintained for the graduation and submitted after the graduation with appropriate receipts. Ceremonies Conrad Fitzgerald Academy’s ceremonies will take place on the first Friday in May each year. The ceremonies will be comprised of a Church Service (6:30pm) and a formal supper (8:00pm). Committee A committee will be formed each school year to help organize the graduation and participate in different activities. The committee will be comprised of the following: Graduation Director- Ms. Maisie Simms Administration Student Representative Parent/ Guardian Representative Teacher Representative Dress The prom is a formal event, therefore no jeans or t-shirts are allowed. Meeting Beginning with the class of 2009, all students who intend to graduate from Conrad Fitzgerald Academy, along with their parents/guardians, must meet with the committee members to review the policies of the school in the fall of the year. It is very important that everyone has a complete and thorough understanding of the importance of Fitzgerald’s policy in order to avoid miscommunications. After the review of the policies students and their parent/guardian will be asked to sign an agreement of understanding before they can participate in prom activities. Graduation Status Invited Guests All school staff including support staff are invited to the ceremonies. Each graduate will receive 6 tickets (maximum) initially that they use to invite guests to their graduation. One ticket will be used for themselves and one for their date. The four remaining are at the discretion of the graduate. Invited guest, except graduate dates, cannot be 15 years old or younger. Any extra tickets have to be applied for and will not be awarded until April. The number of extra ticket will depend on the size of the graduating class. Special Guests The following people will be formally invited to the graduation ceremonies at least two weeks prior to the date of the graduation. Mayors (St. Jacques-Coombs Cove, Belleoram, Pools Cove) Clergy (representative of each faith) School Board Trustees Public Health Nurse School Board Representative These invitations are specific and cannot be transferred to other individuals. Preparation for Graduation Student will be given two days to decorate and prepare for their graduation (Thursday and Friday). Valedictorian Criteria Highest academic average that will allow a student to receive a honors diploma. The courses will be level III courses as outlined in the Department of Education Senior High Certification Handbook. If a student has not received a final mark in the course, the grade awarded on term 2 report (March report) will be used to determine the grade. If the student has received incident reports or a suspension, consideration will be given to the second highest average. Is the student with the highest average elects not to be class valedictorian, then the student with the second highest average will qualify, then the third highest and so on.
