YORKTOWN HIGH SCHOOL Joseph DeGennaro, Principal Joseph J. Cassarini, Assistant Principal Deborah M. Brand, Assistant Principal John P. Gollisz, Assistant Principal 2727 Crompond Road Yorktown Heights, New York 10598 914-243-8050 Fax: 914-245-0546 June 2015 Dear Parents: As you prepare for events leading to this year’s senior prom and graduation, I want to provide you with information, which relates to both of these special occasions. PROM: The prom will be held on Thursday, June 25, from 7:00 p.m. – 12:00 a.m. at the at the Surf Club located on Davenport Road, New Rochelle, New York 10805. Although this is a special moment in the lives of the students, our administrative team becomes increasingly concerned about their safety and well-being. We have all heard stories of students being harmed because they had consumed alcohol and/or other drugs at pre-prom or postprom gatherings. I know that you share my concern regarding this matter. Therefore, we ask that you join us in discouraging this type of activity. We urge you to communicate to your child your expectations for appropriate behavior at parties. If you host such a gathering, be sure to supervise it closely. Kindly remind your child about the dangers of drinking and/or drug use and driving. Over the years it appears that our students go to Seaside, New Jersey, for a post-prom/graduation celebration. There is a misconception that this is a school-sponsored trip. This is not a school-sponsored event. (Please refer to the letter posted on our website in April). I strongly encourage you to have a conversation, regarding your expectations, with your child’s limousine driver prior to departure to the prom. We believe that if we all deliver the same message, we will be taking a large step in ensuring that the Class of 2015 will remain safe and have fond memories of their prom and graduation. GRADUATION: Graduation will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 27, at SUNY Purchase Performing Arts Theater. Please note that only seniors who are academically eligible for graduation will be permitted to participate in the ceremony. Seating will be limited to four tickets per family. Tickets will be distributed at graduation rehearsal. Seating for ticket holders (not graduates) will begin at 12:30 p.m. We look forward to seeing you at graduation. Yours truly, Jospeh DeGennaro Joseph DeGennaro Principal JD:ep
