Introduction

This auxiliary material contains the cruise track of the circumnavigation expedition carried out between December 2010 and July 2011, with indication of the Longhurst’s biogeographical provinces visited. It also contains de province-average variability length scales (VLS) computed as in Asher et al. [2011]. Finally, it contains Pearson’s correlation coefficients between the VLS of dimethylsulfide (DMS) and phytoplankton fluorescence and the magnitudes of salinity, sea surface temperature (SST), potential density (sigma-T), DMS concentration (DMS), chlorophyll a fluorescence signal (Fluo), maximum efficiency of photosystem II (FvFm) and latitude, all measured underway during ship’s navigation.
