All items mentioned in the application form MUST be included with your application form A non-refundable audition processing fee of $40 for each audition, made payable to NHS is to be sent with the audition application form. Applications without payment will not be processed Students may audition in one or two of the Performing/Creative Arts areas which they nominate on the application forms Information about the audition procedure, including time and date, will be forwarded to you following receipt of your application Supporting documentation addressing the selection criteria provided in your application will be assessed by the school in addition to the skills demonstrated in the audition process. No feedback will be provided regarding the applicant’s audition assessment. The examiner’s decision is final. Information for Parents NHS maintains high academic standards, encourages students to participate in a range of opportunities and has a supportive discipline and welfare structure Students must wear appropriate full school uniform at all times. In addition performing arts students require appropriate rehearsal wear Creative and Performing Arts students will be charged a subject fee and Performance Ensemble Fee, payable each semester to subsidise the costs of equipment, photocopying, new technology and costume upkeep etc. Separate fees for the subsidy of new costumes required for special performances will be charged as required School hours are from 8.25 to 2.50pm for all students (Wednesday to 2.30pm). Senior students will commence at 8.00am on Tuesdays each week. There will be additional commitments for Creative & Performing Arts outside these hours NHS is within walking distance of Emu Plains Railway Station and has extensive bus links with Westbus and Blue Mountains Bus Companies Parents of creative and performing arts students are required to commit either time or money to particular activities to support the broad range of opportunities offered by the school. Prepare a 1-2 minute scripted monologue of your own choosing. No poetry please or self written scripts 2. Take part in a one hour Drama Games and Improvisation workshop 3. Wear comfortable clothing that is easy to move in DANCE 1. Prepare a 2 minute dance sequence in their choice of dance style. Bring a backing track (CD’s only) 2. Appropriate Dance attire o Girls - black tights/ foot thongs/ black or navy leotard / or unitard o Appropriate shoes for your audition dance o Boys – white T shirts and black tights or dance pants. Appropriate dance shoes 3. No jewellery. Please tie your hair back off the face 4. Students will take part in a modern / contemporary Dance workshop for 90 minutes. This consists of the following: o Teacher lead warm-ups o Technical skills o Short dance sequence. Students will be required to perform the sequence in small groups INSTRUMENTAL 1. Prepare a piece from 1 to 3 minutes long that demonstrates both your technical ability and expression 2. Bring your instrument to the audition 3. A piano, drum kit and amplifier is available for use 4. Only CD’s or accompanist if required 5. Students may be asked to demonstrate scales and/or sightreading VOCAL 1. Students should prepare a vocal item 1 - 3 minutes long, with a backing track (CD’s only) or accompanist 2. Students may be asked to participate in technical exercises such as, listening to and singing back vocal passages, scales or sightreading VISUAL ARTS, VISUAL DESIGN AND PHOTOGRAPHY Students will participate in a 90 minute arts workshop exploring a range of 2D and 3D media. Students will be given a range of stimulus topics.
