SHEAB will review 7 briefing papers, to be posted on CEPE Workplace. A draft briefing paper ‘Workers Exposure to CMR’ was circulated for the first time. CEPE will not sign the Social Dialogue Agreement on Respirable Crystalline Silica because of the heavy administrative burden for companies. SHEAB discussed a draft CEPE paper on ‘Sustainable Consumption and Production and Sustainable Industrial Policy’ Peter Bachhausen from BASF was elected unanimously as the new SHEAB Chairman. Toxicology Advisory Group (ToxAG), 12 & 13 April The group has reviewed 29 chemicals or chemical families that are critical for the paint and printing ink businesses. Since the last ToxAG meeting 20 CEPE Status Reports have been updated and discussed due to new information collected by the ToxAG Rapporteurs. One issue was reopened on ‘Toxicology of crystalline silica’. Three issues were closed: ’Toxicology of white spirit’; ‘Endocrine modulating chemicals’; ‘Toxicology of cobalt (II) complexes’. Send your input to v.declercq@cepe.org The Technical Committee, which monitors all activities affecting international transport (ADR, UN, IMDG Code and ICAO), met on 16/17 April. Discussions were held with José Franco of the Portuguese transport ministry and Chairman of the ADR WP15 Committee. CEPE/IPPIC papers were being prepared for the UN Sub-Committee of Experts on Transport on: reduced label size; a Class 9 entry for Paint and Printing Ink; the description of pollutants on documentation; and a new special packing provision extending the PP1 limits for UN3082 environmentally hazardous materials. A paper was to be prepared for IMO on the carriage of PP1 materials on short sea crossings. Actions were taken on the sale of paint on the internet and consequent shipment by post, the printing of LQ markings on cartons and the problem of supply marking of packs for materials nonhazardous for transport. Vehicle Refinish EU Sector Group, 19 April One focus at the meeting of the CEPE sector group Vehicle Refinish on April 19 2012 was on the current status of and problems with the implementation of the Vehicle Refinish Product Directive 2004/42/EC in different member states. Powder coatings Group, 24 April The Powder Sector Group discussed a first proposal for a design of a Life Cycle Analysis of Powder on extruded aluminium.
