Nuclear energy!
The nuclear energy is that energy that is obtained from the reactions of particles and atomic
nucleus, the nuclear energy is a cheap and inexhaustible source of energy and even though it is
not a clean energy source it solves a part of the global problem of the need of energy. To find a
cheap and inexhaustible source of energy has been the goal for scientists practically since the
industrial revolution, this was because the other fuels like petroleum, gas and carbon resulted
very expensive and they are becoming less and less as the time pass and people keeps using
them. Even though and taking into accounts its productivity until today it also results very
dangerous because of its wastes and the radioactive risks it has and so that one of its first uses
was as a military weapon in Hiroshima-Nagasaki. So then we can say that it has good and bad
things and in this project we are studying the effects it has on environment and society.
Environmental problems with nuclear energy
Nuclear energy is not a clean energy source. The effects nuclear energy has on the environment
are very serious.
Carbon Dioxide

Nuclear power plants not emit carbon dioxide during it use, but it release carbon dioxide
in activities related to building and running the plants. This happen because the nuclear
power plants use uranium as fuel, the process of mining uranium releases high amounts
of carbon dioxide into the environment.
Low Level Radiation

Nuclear energy plants emit low levels of radiation that affect the humans. Many
scientist studies have shown that people that leave near a nuclear power plant can have
cancer. It also affects the decedents of these people.
Radioactive Waste

Radioactive waste is an important problem. Waste from nuclear power plants can
remain active for hundreds of thousands of years. These wastes are put in a special kind
of pool, but when the pool is filled there’s no other place to take it.
Coling Water System

Cooling system is used to keep the nuclear power plant from overheating, but the water
that is used in this system is taken from oceans or rivers. Catching fishes or others
animals, killing them. The other problem is that when the water had been use, it is
turned to the ocean or the river, this water is now 25 degrees warmer. The warmer
water can kill some fish species and plants.
In society the nuclear energy has power to be most beneficial to our society because it makes
several machines work to generate electricity in a controlled way so it won’t be that dangerous
and it possibilities to be harmful would decrease. The generation of energy by the use of
nuclear power can only be possible by the use of machines that are made specifically for this
type of source. One of these machines is the Pressurized Water Reactor System. The benefits of
using nuclear energy are Powering Our Economy and Reduction of Dependence on Oil. As
nuclear energy is good it can also be bad, one problematic it causes on society is the effects of
radiation. This is one of the principal risks associated with nuclear. This radiation consists of
subatomic particles traveling at or near the velocity of light. They can penetrate deep inside the
human body where they can damage biological cells and thereby initiate a cancer; other of the
risks is that the nuclear fuel waste disposal pollutes the habitat in which we live and it damages
our health in a slow way.
