Lord of the Storm
Mark 4:35-41
Jesus is Lord over the storms of life.
In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the
month, on that day all the fountains of the great deep burst forth, and the windows of the heavens
were opened.
And rain fell upon the earth forty days and forty nights. - Genesis 7:11-12
On the morning of the third day there were thunders and lightnings and a thick cloud on the
mountain and a very loud trumpet blast, so that all the people in the camp trembled.
- Exodus 19:16
Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind and said… - Job 38:1
As I looked, behold, a stormy wind came out of the north, and a great cloud, with brightness
around it, and fire flashing forth continually… - Ezekiel 1:4
But the LORD hurled a great wind upon the sea, and there was a mighty tempest on the sea, so
that the ship threatened to break up. - Jonah 1:4
But soon a tempestuous wind, called the northeaster, struck down from the land. And when the
ship was caught and could not face the wind, we gave way to it and were driven along.
- Acts 27:14-15
Storms bring revelation—if we pay attention.
On that day, when evening had come, he said to them, “Let us go across to the other side.”
- Mark 4:35
And leaving the crowd, they took him with them in the boat, just as he was. And other boats
were with them. - Mark 4:36
The Jesus you take with you into the storm isn’t the Jesus who’s with you when you come out of
the storm.
And a great windstorm arose, and waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was
already filling. But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke him, and said to
him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” - Mark 4:37-38
And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased,
and there was a great calm.” - Mark 4:39
But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of
Christ. - Ephesians 2:13
For he himself is our PEACE, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the
dividing wall of hostility - Ephesians 2:14
by abolishing the law of commandments expressed in ordinances, that he might create in himself
one new man in place of the two, so making PEACE, - Ephesians 2:15
and might reconcile us both to God in one body through the cross, thereby killing the hostility.
- Ephesians 2:16
And he came and preached PEACE to you who were far off and PEACE to those who were near.
- Ephesians 2:17
For through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father. - Ephesians 2:18
The cross is your path to peace, no matter how fierce the storm.
He said to them, “Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?” - Mark 4:40
It takes a storm to teach us how to have real faith.
And they were filled with great fear and said to one another, “Who then is this, that even the
wind and the sea obey him?” - Mark 4:41
Jesus is Lord over the storms of life.
