RESEARCH DEGREES Exchange Student Programme Application Form UAL offers three different options for research degree students who would like to visit us as part of their studies. The Exchange Student Programme is for students who: Are currently studying for an MPhil or PhD at a Higher Education Institute (HEI) outside of the United Kingdom with which University of the Arts London has an agreed Exchange Programme in place; Would like to visit UAL for either 3, 6, 9 or 12 months as an ‘extra’ part of their research degree study. As an Exchange Student at UAL, you will be introduced to the UAL Research environment by an academic member of staff, who will also provide a level of supervision which is dependent on the Exchange Programme in place between your HEI and UAL. You will also benefit from access to UAL buildings, libraries and events, Research Network UAL (RNUAL) and other Postgraduate Research training events, and access to the University’s online learning environment, Moodle, as well as a UAL Student Card and UAL email address. Please note that UAL does not offer any accreditation towards your home HEI for the Visiting Student Programme. Entry points and deadlines You can begin your visit to UAL at one of three entry points throughout the year, but please note that there are different application deadlines depending on when you would like to begin your visit: 1st October (deadline 31st May) Early January (deadline 31st August) 1st April (deadline 30th November) International students If you are an International student then you may need a Short-term Study Visa (previously known as a Student Visitor Visa) to come to the UK to participate in the Exchange Student Programme at UAL; please be aware that it is not possible to obtain a Tier 4 (General) Student Visa for this programme. The Short-term Study Visa is valid for a maximum of 6 months only. Please visit https://www.gov.uk/study-visit-visa for information about applying for a Short-term Study Visa. Applying If you would like to apply for the Exchange Student Programme at UAL, please read the following information and accompanying Visiting Student Guidance Notes carefully before completing this application form. Please note that we also require the following letters of support to be sent directly from your home HEI to researchdegrees@arts.ac.uk before we can consider your application: Letter of institutional support from your home Higher Education Institution (HEI) (please see Guidance Note B, 2) Letter of academic support from your current main research supervisor (please see Guidance Notes B, 3) Please send your completed, signed and dated application form, along with all applicable accompanying documents as email attachments, to researchdegrees@arts.ac.uk; we cannot guarantee that an application will be considered if it is sent to any other email address. It is very important that your email, including all attachments, does not exceed 7MB. You will receive an email confirming receipt of your application within five working days of the date that you submit it, but please get in touch with us again if you do not receive such confirmation.
