Imagine Housing seeks an experienced leader for the Deputy Director position. Imagine Housing’s Deputy
Director will oversee the organization’s day-to-day operations in order to accomplish Imagine Housing’s
strategic vision. Imagine Housing is focused on building new affordable housing communities, preserving
existing housing for decades to come, expanding our on-site supportive services program to meet the full
spectrum of needs of our residents, strengthening our financial position through diversification of revenue
streams and significant increases in fundraising, expanding community awareness of poverty and unmet
basic needs on the Eastside, and advocating for the creation of new revenue streams to support affordable
housing development in the future. Imagine Housing’s growth, progress and vision offers an outstanding

Imagine Housing’s Deputy Director will oversee the operations of and collaboration between the Housing
Development, Asset Management, Supportive Services and Finance Departments. The Deputy Director
will report directly to the Executive Director.
Key Responsibilities
Housing Development
 Support a multidisciplinary approach to planning new housing development projects and oversee
critical decisions made related to new projects;
 Support the Housing Development Department in obtaining funding for new development projects;
 Review the ownership structures for new projects as proposed by the Director of Finance, Director
of Housing Development, Housing Development Committee and attorneys;
 Review relevant housing development-related resolutions prepared by the Director of Housing
Development, Housing Development Committee and attorneys for Board approval;
 Review and, when appropriate, execute housing development project contracts and related
documents to a specified financial limit; and
 Work with Housing Development Department to respond to inquiries from community members
regarding new housing development projects.
Finance
 Monitor cash flow, sign checks, and approve bank statements;
 Review and approve bi-monthly payroll for all Imagine Housing employees;
 Review five-year cash flow projections and conduct fiscal planning with the Director of Finance and
the Executive Director, at least quarterly;
 Support department directors in ensuring that operating revenue and expenses meet budget targets;
 Work with the Director of Finance and the other department directors to develop and refine annual
budgets and present these budgets to the Executive Director;

Review annual audits, work with the Director of Finance to identify strategies to further improve
operations, and present audits and strategy recommendations to the Executive Director for
approval; and
Serve as a resource for risk management, ensuring that proper protocols and procedures are in place
within every department to prevent fraud, injury, loss, and other issues.
Asset Management
 Support a multidisciplinary approach to developing and implementing portfolio preservation efforts
at each property;
 Support the Asset Management Department in addressing issues with the third party property
management company;
 In consultation with attorneys, Executive Director, Board, and Director of Asset Management, take
the lead on significant legal issues that arise related to the properties; and
 Support the Asset Management Department in strengthening property operations and addressing
significant issues at the properties.
Supportive Services
 Serve as a sounding board for the Director of Supportive Services in developing, refining and
implementing staffing plans for the Supportive Services Department;
 Serve as a sounding board and support for the Director of Supportive Services in developing,
reviewing, evaluating and refining our service delivery model and supportive services programs for
existing and new properties;
 Support the Director of Supportive Services in securing funding for services and ramping up staffing
and services for new properties; and
 Review grant requests and grant reports for services, as needed.
HR/Operations/Communications
 Supervise the Director of Housing Development, Director of Finance, Director of Assets, and
Director of Supportive Services and provide guidance where needed for directors’ support of their
staff;
 Oversee Human Resources for Imagine Housing, ensuring that a positive, constructive workplace is
fostered, proper policies and procedures are in place, issues are handled in a timely and appropriate
manner, and proper documentation is confidentially maintained;
 Support the management team in effective human resources;
 Keep employee policies current and updated and make recommendations for any employee policy
changes to the Executive Director;
 Work with the Director of Supportive Services and Lead Resident Services Coordinator on building
and sustaining a Cultural Competency Committee, expanding the diversity of our Board and staff,
and increasing our staff and Board’s awareness and knowledge of cultural competency;
 Serve in a leadership role on the Cultural Competency Committee;
 Support the department directors and other supervisors in the recruitment, training and retention of
highly qualified, experienced and diverse staff;
 Prepare staff evaluations for the Director of Housing Development, Director of Finance, Director
of Assets and Director of Supportive Services and, in concert with the Executive Director, give inperson evaluations;
 Provide ongoing support to staff and foster professional growth opportunities for staff;

Make significant decisions and support Office Administrator and/or IT staff to ensure the effective
operation of our IT systems and infrastructure;
Review and/or author significant communications with Board members, donors, and other
supporters related to Imagine Housing’s operations (annual report, website, quarterly newsletters,
strategic plan progress reports, etc);
Participate in monthly Board meetings;
Serve as the Interim Executive Director during extended absences of the Executive Director;
Support fundraising activities, as requested; and
Perform other duties, as needed.

1. Ability to lead and manage others, as well as work as an effective team member.

4. Strong financial skills, including experience in budgeting, cash flow monitoring, and variance reporting.
5. Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, strong facilitation skills and strong
conflict resolution skills.
6. Ability to effectively manage a high work load, multiple projects and competing priorities.
7. Strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and an ability to work well under pressure.
8. Ability to sit for an extended period of time with exposure to personal computer monitor and frequent
use of a keyboard.
9. High ethical standards and values.
10. Passion for the mission and goals of Imagine Housing.
Minimum Requirements
1. 5-7 years of progressive management experience, including at least 3-5 years in senior management
capacity.
2. Experience with at least two of the following programs and functions is required: commercial or
residential real estate development; affordable housing development; property, asset and/or real estate
portfolio management; community land use and/or economic development; and/or supportive services.
3. Financial knowledge and aptitude.
4. Knowledge of local, state and national policies, issues and best practices regarding community redevelopment, affordable housing, and supportive service delivery.
5. Master’s Degree/Law Degree or Bachelor’s degree plus commensurate experience.
6. Competent technology management skills, including proficiency with using Microsoft Office (Word,
Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc); database and/or IT management experience is a plus.
7. Valid WA driver’s license, reliable vehicle and valid auto insurance.
8. Pass a criminal background check.
Work Schedule
The Deputy Director position is a full time, salaried and exempt position. Hours worked will be weekdays
at least 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m, or at a mutually agreed-upon schedule. Evening and/or weekend work also
may be required. Regular daily (work week) presence is required.
