Dear Parents /Carers
The year 5 team is really excited for our adventure through the rainforest and look forward to all of the
exciting learning that we are going to be doing linked to our rainforest topic! In order to ensure that we
can make the most of every learning opportunity and to promote curiosity and enjoyment throughout our
learning journey, we have attached a creative curriculum plan for the Autumn Term. It would be fantastic
if you were able to explore this topic with your children during the summer break, to create the
foundations for our learning and build on the learning that we do in school. Please see your child’s Home
Learning Book for details of the summer project, we are very much looking forward to seeing the outcomes
that the children produce.
Whilst it is important for children to have a break from school routine and enjoy the summer sunshine, it
is also essential to build in opportunities for them to continue to read, write for purpose and ensure a
rapid recall of multiplication tables, up to 12 x 12. Learning can happen indoors or outdoors (on holiday or
doing the weekly food shop). Make the most of these opportunities and show the children how their
learning links to the world around them, they will love the chance to show off what they know and apply
their learning outside the classroom. We cannot underestimate the value of speaking and listening, so have
regular conversations with your children about the news, sporting events, or anything that you are
interested in. Spoken language will be our drive in September, so help your child get a head start.
We hope you have a wonderful summer and we look forward to working in partnership with you and your
child in September!
Yours sincerely
