The ACCENT GeoEcological Organization started from 09.15.2013 a information / awareness caravan for the local communities: Sâncrăieni (with Sâncrăieni village), Sântimbru (with Sântimbru village), Sânsimion
(with Sânsimion and Cetăţuia villages) and Tuşnad (with Vrabia, Tuşnad Sat and Tuşnad Nou villages) and Băile
Tușnad town. Informative / awareness materials (flyer, brochure, flora and fauna atlas, ecotourism map) are distributed during the caravan. The target groups were represented by the local communities (all age, sex and nationality groups) and the local authorities from the above mentioned communes. The natural values of the
Lower Ciuc Basin Natura 2000 site were presented during the caravan as well as the population awareness regarding the importance of conserving biodiversity and discouraging the activities which are incompatible with the sustainable development. We consider thus, that trough this presentation we obtained support from the local communities in the area, and we could improve the awareness and understanding of environmental problems among the population and the local authorities. In the next period another activity of information/awareness will take place, which will consist in the realization a traveling photography exhibition containing 30 images with the species and habitats of Community interest from the Natura 2000 site. The exhibition will be organized in the schools from the above mentioned localities and the target groups will be the pupils.
These activities are part of the project with the title: “Management Plan and Information Campaign, education and awareness for the Lower Ciuc Basin Natura 2000 Site”, project code: SMIS-CSNR 36405, implemented by the ACCENT GeoEcological Organization, in partnership with the Environmental Protection
Agency Harghita and the Council of Băile Tuşnad. This project is co-financed by the European Regional
Development Fund and it is functioning through Financing Agreement nr 128838/12.04.2012, which was signed between the Ministry of Environment and Forests, as the Managing Authority for the Sector Operational
Program Environment 2007-2013, and the ACCENT GeoEcological Organization, as the beneficiary of the funding. The project value is 1.954.972 lei, from which the eligible value is 1.615.500 lei (grant funding from the
European Regional Development Fund and the state budget) and the value, other than the eligible, is 339.472 lei, from which 310.272 lei represents the VAT related to the project eligible value. The project will last 24 months, from 12.04.2012 till 11.04.2014. The main goal/objective of this project is “to protect and repair significantly the favorable conservation status of the Lower Ciuc Basin Natura 2000 Site, and also to conserve the species and habitats of the community interest, within an open, transparent, consultative and participatory process, which has the goal to finish the management plan and to inform the stakeholders parties about the advantages of conserving the Natura 2000 Site”. The specific objectives/goals of the project are:
 Elaboration of the Management Plan for the Lower Ciuc Basin Natura 2000 Site, in accordance with the current law and supervision by the competent authority for the environmental protection.
 Increase the level of information, education and awareness of the stakeholders about the importance and role of the Lower Ciuc Basin Natura 2000 Site, with particular attention on the local sustainable development: sustainable economical development, protection of the environment and achieving the objectives of favorable conservation status of species of community interest.
