Oklahoma City and Tulsa
CVS Health presented OU
College of Pharmacy with a
$250,000 check on Aug. 27 to
fund development of a
pharmacy leadership institute
at the college. This gift will
allow the college to build
upon curriculum already in
place to create the OU College
of Pharmacy Leadership
Institute. Approximately 140
schools were eligible; OU College of Pharmacy was one of the top nine finalists judged
by the CVS Health corporate steering committee. The Leadership Institute will be
directed by deans Jane Wilson and Michael Smith.
As part of the Leadership Institute long-term
plan, a Summer Symposium will be launched
in June of this year. Selected students from
targeted schools will attend a week-long
intensive leadership training class on the
OUHSC campus and directed by deans Jane
Wilson and Michael Smith. A variety of
speakers, including senior management
representatives from CVS Health, will
address the importance of leadership.
Opportunities for team building and handson exercises will be a part of the specialized
curriculum.
OU President David Boren announced in September a five year, $500 million
fundraising goal to support student scholarships, faculty endowments, residential
colleges and other university upgrades and initiatives. “Live on, University” are words
taken straight from the OU chant. This campaign will culminate in December of 2015,
coinciding with the university’s celebration of its 125th anniversary. OU College of
Pharmacy is definitely a part of this overall campaign, and will be identified by “Live on,
Pharmacy.” Interested parties may contact Rex Urice, director of pharmacy
development, at (405) 271-2823 or rex-urice@ouhsc.edu.
OU Pharmacy
Business Plan
Teams Rise to the
Top (Again)
OU Pharmacy’s team, “Guardian Pharmacy,” competed against the colleges of
pharmacy at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and the University of
California, San Francisco, and secured first place on Oct. 18 at the NCPA’s annual
convention in Austin, TX. This marked the second consecutive year that OU Pharmacy
earned the top berth in this competition. Team members were Lindsay Bebout,
Latosha Zugelder and Lindsey Crane. The other OU team placed in the top 10
nationally with the Diversity Drugs Pharmacy business plan. Team members were
Annie Pham, Charles Mathew and Jessalyn Nguyen.
Alumni
Association’s
“Adrenaline Run”
The college’s alumni association
hosted its third annual run on the
OUHSC campus. The “Adrenaline
Run” took place at 9 am on
Saturday, March 7.
A new course and a new tech shirt
enticed over 250 runners to
register. The run’s name was
altered slightly to better describe
the race to all interested parties.
