Have you ever considered joining an Affective
Neuroscience Playgroup?
Be a fearless explorer, activate your SEEKING system and follow in the footsteps of leading
neuroscientist, Jaak Panksepp, author of The Archaeology of Mind: Neuroevolutionary Origins
of Human Emotions. Bring your PLAY system and join an affective neuroscience ‘playgroup’.
PANIC, FEAR and RAGE systems will be soothed with great CARE, with the aim to kindle
passion and fan your LUST for new knowledge.
Panksepp charted the seven core systems of mammalian emotion and their accompanying
behaviours, ingrained deep in the lower brain: the SEEKING, RAGE, FEAR, LUST, CARE,
PANIC/GRIEF, and PLAY systems. Together we will explore these systems, using his work as
a standard text.
Small group, interactive workshops will aim to:



Build bridges between affective neuroscience and encourage dialogue between
disciplines.
Allow each individual to build his or her own sustainable framework, to which future
knowledge can be added.
Develop tools that are not only thrilling to explore and discuss in theory, but can be put to
practical use.
A playful, creative stance and sufficient revision and preparation between sessions are brain
essentials for gluing down new knowledge. Please be sure that your schedule will allow for this
throughout the duration of the course.
Good news! Due to demand, a second level, Neuroscience Playgroup II has been added in 2016.
Integrate your knowledge gained in Level I by drawing on the work of leading authors in the
field such as Louis Cozolino, Allen Schore, Dan Siegel and others. A discussion group format
allows for didactic input, group learning, case studies and practical discussion.
Course requirement: Neuroscience Playgroup Level I
We will take what we do seriously, but do not take ourselves seriously. I look forward to your
potential participation in this venture.
