Day 1 (Sat 21st June)After taking our flight from Edinburgh to Krakow we met the rest of our group, our host and the two
teachers who would be with us for the first week of the placement. Miro then drove us to a guesthouse in Kezmarok where we would stay for the next two weeks.
Day 2 (Sun 22nd June)Miro showed us around Kezmarok including the town castle and many other of the town's
attractions
Day 3 (Mon 23rd June)This was our first day at the local art school and we started sewn-lace and gatra and were introduced
to the slovakian students, lessons finished at 4 o'clock so we had the rest of the evening to explore
the town.
Day 4 (Tue 24th June)We continued lace work and gatra at the art school.
Day 5 (Wed 25th June)We started the day at the town hall, seeing the Slovakian student's end of year exhibition and then
walked back to the art school where we continued sewn-lace and gatra.
Day 6 (Thur 26th June)In the morning we continued lace-work and gatra, we had moved onto our second piece by this
point, and then in the afternoon we went to a near by forest with the Slovakian student and had an
end-of term barbecue with them.
Day 7 (Fri 27th June)In the morning we saw the opening of an exhibition in the schools hall with their graduating students
work and then we continued our projects. In the evening we went with Miro and the teachers to a
local pizzeria and the teachers were presented with their certificates for completing their placement.
Day 8 (Sat 28th June)We drove to the Dunajec river where we went on a 3 hour rafting trip through a national park, and
in the evening we went to one of the bars in Kezmarok
Day 10 (Mon 30th june)We started bobbin lace at the local art school
Day 11 (Tue 1st June)We focused on bobbin lace and were introduced to more complicated techniques, class finished at 2
o'clock so we went to the second hand shops in kezmarok
Day 12 (Wed 2nd June)This was our last day of Bobbin lace
Day 13 (Thur 3rd June)We started Macrame, initially we used thick string but moved onto embroidery threads.
Day 14 (Fri 4th June)We continued with Macrame and went to a pizzeria in the evening
Day 15 (Sat 5th June)We spent the day hiking up the tatra mountains and then visited a nearby town in the afternoon
Day 16 (Sun 6th June)We left for Stropkov
Day 17 (Mon 7th June)Today we met our crotchet teacher Maria, we then started making crotchet napkin holders, and in
the evening headed to a local restaurant for our dinner.
Day 18 (Tue 8th June)We had a Slovak language lesson in the morning and then we headed into the town to visit Maria's
exhibition.
Day 19 (Wed 9th June)We started making crotchet wool decorations and headed to the community swimming pool after
our lessons
Day 20 (Thur 10th June)We made crotchet napkins, in the evenings we would sometimes meet the slovakian students in the
town centre
Day 21 (Fri 11th June)We completed our crotchet napkins
Day 22 (Sat 12th June)We visited the nearby town Bardejov and went to the Icon museum and then to a tearoom
Day 23 (Mon 14th June)We learnt a new crotchet technique which was quite similar to macrame and in the afternoon we
visited the community pool
Day 24 (Tue 15th June)We travelled to Michalovce for the day we were introduced to weaving on a loom, at about midday
the local news crews came to interview us about weaving and the traditional textiles placement!
Day 25 (Wed 16th June)This was our second day in Michalovce so we continued weaving and by the end of our two days had
completed two rugs, we then explored Michalovce's town centre
Day 26 (Thur 17th June)We finished of our crotchet projects
Day 27 (Fri 18th June)We had a Slovak language lesson in the morning and then a meal with Miro, our weaving and
crotchet teachers and the slovakian students who had been translating for us.
Day 28 (Sat 19th June)We left for Krakow airport in the morning and we then had the Krakow before flying home.
