To join Rolling Thunder one does not need a motorcycle, one does not need to be a veteran, one can be of either gender or any age. Quite a few of our members are not veterans. Some of our most favorite people in Rolling Thunder wear a simple patch that reads: “I wasn’t there but I still care.” All one needs is a willingness to work on the POW/MIA cause and help local veterans. Rolling Thunder Illinois Chapter 1 1. 2. 3. 4. Activities we funded during 2014 are: a. We donated $6,000 to the Nicholas Larsen Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans in Wheaton, IL. b. We donated $30,000 to the WCPF Concord Place Veteran Project in Northlake, IL to furnish 12 rooms for homeless veterans in 2014. Thanks to your help, 12 more formerly homeless veterans now have a warm and safe place to live along with three meals a day. Through 2014 RT IL 1 has funded 14 rooms at Concord Place. c. We donated $2,000 to Task Force Omega. Task Force Omega keeps the POW/MIA mission in the eyes and ears of the Washington, DC politicians. Task Force Omega is an organization dedicated to the full accounting and return of all prisoners of war and those missing in action. d. We donated $1,500 to the Manteno State Veterans Home in Manteno, IL. e. We are providing a $32,000 wheel chair transport van to LaSalle Veterans Home in LaSalle, IL. with assistance from our anonymous donor f. We donated $1000 to the National Alliance of Families. An alliance for the return of our Missing in Action servicemen. We performed the Remembrance Table Ceremony on three occasions: a. Military Appreciation Night with the Kane County Cougars Minor League Baseball Team b. The Big Thunder Run c. The Welcome Home Veteran event at the Villa Park VFW. Our present structure allows 97½ cents from every fundraising dollar to be spent on the POW/MIA issue and assisting local veterans. Our Chapter does not have administrative expenses such as salaries, perks, bonuses, fees or offices. We are all volunteers who believe in our mission. On a personal level we have members that have joined POW/MIA demonstrations in Washington, DC as well as Haley, Idaho (home of Bowe Bergdahl) and Rainelle, West Virginia. Members have also joined in Troop escorts, welcome home escorts, and escorted both the Traveling Viet Nam Wall and the Moving Wall. Rolling Thunder Mission Statement The major function of Rolling Thunder®, Inc. is to publicize the POW/MIA issue: To educate the public that many American Prisoners of War were left behind after all previous wars, and to help correct the past and to protect future veterans from being left behind should they become Prisoners Of War or Missing In Action. We are also committed to helping American veterans from all wars.
