CLASS TITLE: PHARMACY MANAGER

This is work managing the operations of a pharmacy. The employee(s) in the position(s) allocated to
this class exercise(s) independent judgment in formulating or assisting in the formulation of policies
and procedures which have significant impact in personnel administration and/or preparation and
administration of budgets.

Plans, organizes, and directs a pharmacy involved in the compounding, dispensing, and analyses
of drugs prescribed for patients.
Organizes and directs the establishment of prescription pharmaceutical dispensing procedures
for the county health units and other providers.
Consults with physicians, nurses, and other health professionals in evaluating the methods,
procedures, and services of the pharmacy, and prepares appropriate recommendations.
Develops and coordinates a perpetual inventory control system for all pharmacy drugs and
materials for the pharmacy and/or county health units.
Prepares written specifications as to quantity and source for the purchase of all drugs,
chemicals, antibiotics, and biological and pharmaceutical preparations used in the treatment of
patients.
Selects and trains professional pharmacists and pharmacy assistants in methods and
procedures of manufacturing, compounding, and dispensing pharmaceutical drugs.
Requisitions all pharmaceutical materials for the department and/or program; maintains
budgetary controls; and meets with pharmaceutical representatives for the discussion of new
products, drugs, and prices.
Develops and implements new methods of manufacturing and packaging of drugs and supplies.
Assists in conducting seminars and lectures for graduate and undergraduate students,
registered pharmacists, and pharmacy interns.

Directs the warehousing of a large quantity of prescription pharmaceutical for statewide
distribution.
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of the principles, practices, standards and terminology used in the practice of
pharmacy.
Knowledge of drug properties and usage including the effects of drug interactions.
Ability to compound and dispense pharmaceutical drugs, medications and supplies.
Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
Ability to develop and maintain a perpetual inventory control system.
Ability to evaluate pharmacy methods, procedures, and services and to formulate policies,
procedures and specifications.
Ability to develop and implement methods for manufacturing and packaging drugs and
supplies.
Ability to select and train staff.
Ability to supervise people.
Ability to develop various reports.
Ability to manage a pharmaceutical program.
Ability to requisition pharmaceutical materials.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS




Licensure as a Pharmacist in accordance with Florida Statute 465 and two years of professional
experience in the practice of pharmacy.
A master's degree from an accredited college or university in pharmacy can substitute for one
year of the required experience.
A Pharm.D. from an accredited college or university can substitute for the required experience.
A doctorate from an accredited college or university in pharmacy can substitute for the
required experience.
