Vacaturetekst Job title: (Graduation) Internship Pattern Recognition Dayahead Power Forecasts Wind Farms (16503) Subtitle: Improving the short and long term production forecasts through pattern recognition and sophisticated adjustments for local circumstances. Location: Business line: Job description: Arnhem Water & Milieu Arcadis uses an in-house state-of-the-science meteorological model for weather forecasts, air quality studies, the prediction of the long term wind climate, short term wind power forecasts etcetera. This model is more and more being used for wind energy projects. During the last year this product has through international collaboration been further developed for the wind energy market and introduced in the Dutch market. It has been optimized for use in combination with the software packages WindPRO and WAsP for the prognosis of the long term energy yield of wind farms. The research internship is mainly aimed at the optimisation and validation of short term (intraday and day-ahead) wind power forecasts. We would like to further improve short term predictions by pattern recognition (statistical analysis) and to better determine the influence of weather parameters on wind power and the accuracy of the forecast. This knowledge will be used to even better predict the power and expected accuracy. This will be demonstrated by checking the predictions against the allocated production. Also, attention is drawn to long term power forecasts. We would like to further validate the weather model for the European situation using available historical observations at meteorological stations and production data from wind farms. The research internship is focused on further determining the accuracy of the model in the European situation, determining which factors play an important role and the resolution in which these are included in the calculation. This will be used to increase and ensure the accuracy. Besides the specific research project there is also room to assist in regular studies for wind sites. Will you help us to further optimize our state-of-the-science power forecast model?
