FRIENDS OF THE PEAK DISTRICT AND CPRE SOUTH YORKSHIRE MEMBERSHIP RECRUITMENT OFFICER (part-time, 0.5 FTE) JOB DESCRIPTION and PERSON SPECIFICATION PURPOSE OF JOB To recruit new members on behalf of the Friends of the Peak District by promoting our work and selling membership directly to the public. This will include attending a range of events, including local shows; working at supermarkets and other retail outlets; and carrying out follow up calls. The post reports to the Fundraising and Marketing Co-ordinator. JOB SPECIFICATION Our members are critical to the Friends of the Peak District. They provide our political influence, a pool of opinion, intelligence, volunteers, knowledge and skills, and also as a significant source of funds. The Membership Recruitment Officer will be part of the public face of the Friends and will play a key role in the task of growing and developing our membership and in promoting more widely our work and campaigns. The post will involve lone working and the post holder will be expected to work autonomously for much of the time. Hours of work will include weekends, especially during the summer months. The post holder will be collecting and temporarily storing personal and confidential data so a high level of responsibility will be required. The post holder must be well organised and methodical in collection and management of this information and in reporting their work. In addition to the salary, successful performance will be rewarded through a commission based pay scheme as detailed below. SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (a) Recruit new members to Friends of the Peak District by inspiring and enthusing people about our work and campaigns. (b) Achieve agreed membership targets, including income levels. (c) Present a professional image of the Friends at all times. (d) Encourage existing members to increase their commitment to supporting the Friends, for example by promoting volunteering opportunities, seeking additional donations, or recruiting other members. (e) Develop and maintain a good knowledge and understanding of the work of the Friends of the Peak District, CPRE South Yorkshire and, to a lesser extent CPRE nationally, the Peak District and the Campaign for National Parks (CNP). (f) Develop and maintain good working relationships with events co-ordinators and venue managers in order to maximise recruitment opportunities. (g) Actively seek out and develop new opportunities for membership recruitment opportunities. (h) Liaise with events co-ordinators and venue managers to book our presence at events and venues. (i) Attend retail venues, Friends events and other community events to promote our work, collect donations and primarily to recruit members. (j) Support FPD staff and trustees to improve internal membership recruitment. (k) Accurately complete new members’ pledge forms; timesheets with details of days and hours worked; and venue / event feedback forms and submit to the Fundraising and Marketing Co-ordinator on a weekly basis. (l) Liaise with the Fundraising and Marketing Co-ordinator to agree priority areas, venues and events for recruitment. (m) Pass on any queries, which cannot be immediately dealt with, and liaise with office staff to ensure a timely response to any such enquiries. (n) Work to and promote our charitable objectives, strategy, policies and procedures and ensure all work is undertaken to relevant policies (eg. equal opportunities and health & safety). (o) Work with the Fundraising and Marketing Co-ordinator to ensure all membership recruitment and fundraising activities are carried out in accordance with best practice standards promoted by the Institute of Fundraising. CPRE Peaks and South Yorkshire is a small charity. Staff members are expected to work closely together, and to make the most of the skills and experiences of volunteers. The duties of this post may be subject to adjustment from time to time and the post holder may be required to carry out other reasonable tasks. PERSON SPECIFICATION 1. Experience 1-2 years relevant experience, ideally working in a membership recruitment, sales or similar environment involving direct public engagement and performance to targets Experience of direct charity fundraising Experience of working for a charity E D D 2. Knowledge An understanding of how membership sales techniques work and how high value members can be secured E An understanding of the rules and regulations applying to direct charity fundraising and good practice standards as promoted by the Institute of Fundraising. A good understanding of the work and campaigns of the Friends of the Peak District A basic knowledge of the Peak District National Park Authority and the work of CPRE nationally and CNP 3. E D D E E E E E E E E E E E E E E TERMS AND CONDITIONS This is a permanent appointment, unless terminated earlier as provided in the notice provisions. Salary: Salary will be £15,244.75 per annum pro rata, plus commission (see below). Each day (or period of 7 hours) spent recruiting, the post holder is expected to recruit membership with a minimum annual value of £120 (excluding gift aid). This is equivalent to two members pledging £5 per month and will be averaged over a fortnight. Any recruitment over and above this minimum will be paid for on a commission basis at 72% of the annual value secured. At least one monthly payment must be received from each membership for it to count towards this minimum. If no payment is received from a new member and commission has already been paid, FPD reserves the right to deduct the commission paid from future payments. Salary payments will be paid on or around the 19th of each month. Commission payments will be calculated before the payroll cut off each month and will be paid in arrears. Performance review: If the minimum fortnightly target is not met twice in any six month period, the post holder will be required to attend a performance review meeting with the Fundraising and Marketing Co-ordinator. Further disciplinary procedures are set out in the Employment Handbook. Payscales are adjusted annually for inflation. Any increases to your salary will be at the discretion of the trustees and subject to the organisation’s financial situation. Hours of work: 17.5 hours per week (0.5FTE based on a 35 hour week). In addition to normal office hours, some evening and weekend work is required, as arranged with the Fundraising and Marketing Co-ordinator. A flexi-time system is in place. Pension: The post is eligible for a pension contribution of 6% of gross salary on satisfactory completion of the six month probationary period. Holidays: 25 days per annum pro rata, plus statutory holidays pro rata, increasing by 1 day pro rata a year for each year of employment up to the equivalent of a maximum of 30 days.
