Page 1 of 4 Triton College Transfer Guide Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education ECED Available at: NEIU Main Campus (Chicago, IL) Program Description The program in Early Childhood Education (ECED) consists of 43 hrs in professional courses, which are divided into 5 levels. A minor from an approved list, is also necessary to complete the program in Early Childhood Education at NEIU. Students who complete this program qualify for Early Childhood Education state certification Type 04 and are certified to teach from birth to third grades. Admission Requirements for NEIU’s College of Education Passing scores on the Test of Academic Proficiency (TAP) www.icts.nesinc.com C or better in English 101 C or better in College Level Math A minimum 2.5 GPA A minimum 30 semester hours (this can be transfer coursework or courses taken at NEIU) Important only for students transferring with an AAT in Early Childhood Education: Students transferring an AAT in Early Childhood Education will be admitted into the College of Education pending the completion of an application and background check. Also, students who complete the AAT degree in accordance with the AAT in Early Childhood are considered to have met all the outcomes and fulfilled all the coursework needed in general education. (Passing the Basic Skills Test is part of the AAT agreement). A recommendation form from a university professor. Students who are first applying to NEIU’s College of education, without completion of one full semester at the university, must submit a copy of transcripts with transfer GPA. Students who have completed a full semester at the university must print a copy of their NEIU transcripts from their NEIU port account. A complete fingerprint background check is required as part of the admission process. Please refer back to link for the various vendors and locations for this service. Completion of all professional education sequence courses and requirements. Maintain cumulative GPA of 2.5. Maintain professional sequence GPA of 2.75. In order for students to be entitled by NEIU for the Illinois Type 03 certificate (elementary/middle grades), they must have received a “B” or better in student teaching and have passed the Test of Academic Proficiency (TAP) and the ICTS Elementary/Middle Grades Test. In order for students to be certified by the Illinois State Board of Education, they will need to have passed the appropriate ICTS Assessment of Professional Teaching test. *These courses are part of the professional sequence in Early Childhood Education and are only offered at NEIU.
