January 7, 2014 Dear Graduate Student Community: I write regarding an opening on the Board of Trustees at the University of Cincinnati. My two-year term on the Board as the graduate student trustee is coming to an end in Spring 2016, and both the GSGA and myself are reaching out as early as possible to find a replacement. As a state educational institution, the University of Cincinnati is governed by eleven trustee members, two of which are student representatives. The Board is entrusted to oversee the operation of the University. It is also the designated formal decision maker of the University, and makes such decisions with the interests of Ohio taxpayers in mind. The University of Cincinnati is unique in that it reserves one of these positions for a graduate student representative. This position provides a great opportunity for graduate students to have representation at the highest level of the University. With that said, there are some commitments that a graduate student trustee must make. The trustee serves a two-year term, and provides input with a graduate perspective in mind. They will also be responsible for providing a monthly report to the Board at a public meeting. Reports consist of updates from the Graduate Student Governance Association, issues around the graduate community, and upcoming events throughout the University. In the near future this position is also likely to hold voting powers on the board, which means the trustee must also be prepared to vote on decisions for the entire graduate community. The trustee will also be required to attend all Graduate Student Governance Association meetings to remain in constant contact with the graduate community. Finally, they will also serve on various sub-committees throughout the University, from academic and student affairs to finance. There are some basic qualifications to be eligible to apply for this position per the Ohio Revised Code: The student must be in good academic, disciplinary, and financial standing with the University and must remain as such throughout the entire nomination period as well as their entire term of office. All applicants must be a resident of the State of Ohio and must be at least 18 years old. The applicant should be aware that all university records will be reviewed. All applicants must be able to serve a two year term of office as a registered student. All of these are requirements by law, and unfortunately cannot be waived. If you are interested and eligible, we encourage you to apply! To do so, please submit the following: A one page letter of intent including your college and expected date of graduation A resume that includes contact information A grade release form, attached and signed A disciplinary release form, attached and signed All applications are due to president.ucgsga@gmail.com by January 29th, 2016 at 5:00PM. Thank you all and hope to hear from you soon!
