NEW TOWN HIGH SCHOOL ASSOCIATION MINUTES OF GENERAL MEETING TUESDAY 27th NOVEMBER 2012 7.30pm 1. Present: Sheenagh Neill, Sandy Hniat, Ros Beswick, Grace Guerzoni, Karin Hodel, Hong Lee, Marcus Newbown, Mollie Morgan, Kirsten Toselli, Jenny Grandfield, David O’Brien 2. Apologies-nil 3. Minutes of Previous Meeting (Tuesday 28th August 2012) Minutes of the previous meeting were circulated at the meeting. An amendment was made under the Second-Hand Clothes Report – ‘19th Nov’ should read ‘19th Dec’. The minutes were accepted as a true and accurate record. Moved: Marcus Newbown Seconded: Grace Guerzoni MOTION CARRIED 4. Business Arising from the Previous Meeting. New Grade 7s orientation-went extremely well. A large number of parents present. Roses Cupboard Fundraiser - a great night was had by all in attendance. NTHS received 10% of all takings on the day and as a consequence $320 was raised Golf Clubs – It appears that the custom tax has been overlooked. No sign of any invoice. Second –Hand Uniform Shop- Mollie said that a couple of people had shown some interest in helping with the Second Hand Uniform Shop but no one was really committed or willing to take responsibility for it. Still following up some options. Another ad to be placed in the newsletter. Canteen -Mollie went to the Canteen Committee meeting last week. Basil Catering has won the contract again. They are going for Silver Accreditation again. Sheenagh reported that Basil have done lots of good things within the school including involving the Hospitality Students in catering opportunities such as a wedding. Darryl’s farewell Gift-Mollie has purchased ‘Beers of the world’ which Sheenagh will pass on to Darryl. 5. Prefects’ Report – no Prefects at the meeting 6. Financial Report – Mollie presented the financial report for the end of October. There is $1256 in the Operating Account with $361 of unpresented cheques. 7. Second hand uniform Shop If someone available to run Second-hand uniform shop next year, it will be open 2 days before School goes back IN OUT 8. Correspondence -nil -nil 9. Principal’s Report Teachers have been drawing up a strategic plan for NTHS. More of a focus on outcomes. Sheenagh tabled a copy of latest draft and asked for comments from School Association Sandy Menadue has been appointed as the new Principal NTHS Solar Car team have just returned from Melbourne having won both the National and International Competiton. A great achievement. The Drama production ‘Golden Goose’ was most successful and over 1500 primary schools attended and appeared to really enjoy it. Bill Jarvis is leaving NTHS at the end of the year. College orientation went well Grade 10 celebration Dinner Wednesday night Music Night was excellent and reasonably well attended. Around $1000 was raised which will be put towards the purchase of a keyboard Final Grade 10 testing next week. Reports out soon. Student Alex Sher gained an Academic scholarship to Friends as from next year 10. New BusinessPresentation Evening Jenny to do a short speech regarding School Association and also present one of the Awards. School Association will pay for the drinks and chips for the boy’s supper on the night. Sergio Guidici Award Boys who have nominated will be short-listed next Thursday and then interviewed on Friday. Meeting dates for next year February 26th March 26th May 28th June 25th July 30th August 27th September 24th October 29th November 26th 11. Other Business Marcus raised the issue of whether the school could provide documentation or a certificate to boys who have been involved in various activities such as mentoring. Sheenagh said it was the boys’ responsibility to keep track of their own activities however a spreadsheet of activities could possibly be developed. Marcus enquired as to whether there was a quiet room available for boys to eat their lunch whilst finishing off home work. Other than the library and the Learning Centre, Sheenagh said there were no other places as students would need to have a teacher present. Hong Lee raised the issue of availability of sports equipment for use at lunchtimes. Sheenagh advised the meeting that there were 2 options for loaning out equipment and that there were various sports competitions organised at lunchtimes. She was going to inform Peer Support leaders to be on the look out for boys who may be shy or not being included by other boys. 12.
