Senior Meeting Written Agenda

Bright Futures Information – Students should be working on Bright Futures requirements if they plan to
submit an application for the scholarship. There are three different levels, handout provided and posted on
the website. It is very important that students take the SAT and/or ACT if they are planning to apply. They
should also be completing their community service hours. Website for application opens December 1, 2015.
Deadline to sign up for Dual Enrollment for second semester is December 18, 2015.
Senior Ads for the Yearbook – Due February 1, 2016. Information is provided on the Senior Page of the
website.
Scholarships – Keep checking the scholarship opportunities regularly. Deadline for the Education Foundation
Scholarship is 5:00 PM on January 3, 2016.
Virtual School – Many students are taking virtual courses to meet their online requirement and also because
they selected the courses. It is imperative that students keep up with the coursework so they are not
withdrawn from the virtual course. All coursework has to align with the number of release periods.
Attendance and Grades – It is important to check FOCUS regularly. Student attendance and grades are
monitored by the administration. Any student that is noted to have multiple absences or failing grades will
be monitored and conferences will be scheduled to ensure that students stay on track to graduate. If you
have any specific concerns regarding your senior, please be sure to contact your student’s administrator or
counselor.


College Applications – Many schools have already opened their college application period. It is important
that students check the websites for the schools they are looking at on a regular basis for updates and
deadlines.

Students are allowed 3 college visits in their senior year. Those visits must be requested ahead of
the visit and documentation from the school must be provided upon return. Students can obtain the
request form from guidance.

If your student has questions about applying to college, please be sure they see their guidance
counselor quickly so as not to miss important deadlines.
Exam Exemptions –
Reminder, that consistent with School Board Policies, students may exempt a course for which they have an
A or B both marking periods (2nd marking period being anticipated) and have four or less absences. First
semester they can exempt up to three.
Exams will take place from Tuesday, December 15, 2015 to Friday, December 18, 2015.

REMINDER – As of March 2016, the new SAT will replace the current SAT. No super scoring of old SAT with
the new SAT.
