NAME: HOMEROOM TEACHER: GRADE 2- TECHNOLOGY/MEDIA RESEARCH PROJECT Georgia Alphabet Research PROJECT FOCUS: Students will incorporate the skills they have learned this year in the classroom, technology class, and media class, to learn more about the research process. Students will utilize time during technology, media and language arts class to complete the research, note-taking, summarizing/writing, and visual product parts of this project. *Students will receive support for this project at school and are not expected to complete any of this project at home. PROJECT PARTS: Part 1- Research: Each student will select a random letter of the alphabet, then look on the chart provided in class for the “Georgia related” nouns that begin with that letter. Students will use the resources provided in class to research information about their “Georgia nouns”. Part 2- Summarizing Information: Students will list two (2) facts about each Georgia noun on their list. Part 3- Visual Product: Students will use Pixie 3 to create a mini alphabet book sharing what they learned about their Georgia nouns. Second Grade- Media/ Technology Research Project (Related CCGPS): Reading for Information CCGPS CCRRI7: Integrate and evaluate content presented in diverse formats and media, including visually and quantitatively, as well as in words.* CCRRI9: Analyze how two or more texts address similar themes or topics in order to build knowledge or to compare the approaches the authors take. CCRRI10: Read and comprehend complex literary and informational texts independently and proficiently. Writing CCRW6: Use technology, including the Internet, to produce and publish writing and to interact and collaborate with others. CCRW8: Gather relevant information from multiple print and digital sources, assess the credibility and accuracy of each source, and integrate the information while avoiding plagiarism. Historical Understandings- GEORGIA, MY STATE In second grade, the various social studies strands become more woven around the historical strand. The history strand focuses on important historical figures in Georgia and the Creek and Cherokee cultures in Georgia. The geography strand emphasizes the geography of Georgia and relates that to the historical study. In addition to the positive character traits of the individuals and groups in the historical strand, the basic concept of government is also introduced. Basic economics concepts continue to be introduced and are related to the historical strand. NETS-S (1.Creativity and Innovation) Students demonstrate creative thinking, construct knowledge, and develop innovative products and processes using technology.
