All About Me!!!! My name is Emily Marie Landers. I was born August 4th 1999 in Odessa Regional Hospital in Odessa, Texas at 12:07 pm. Although, I wasn’t the only one born on August 4th, Louis Armstrong, Dylan and Cole Sprouse, and Barack Obama share my birthday. When I was born, I had to stay in the hospital for two extra weeks because I had breathing problems. I think what makes me special is my musical talent. Everyone in my family on my Mom’s side played some kind of instrument. My great- grandma played piano, my grandpa plays drums, grandma plays piano, uncle plays bass guitar, and my mom used to play piano. I have learned to play almost every percussion instrument and a little guitar in the past 3 years and I am going to learn even more instruments. Omg not another Grandma story!! Once apon a time, my great-grandmother was driving down the road, when on the radio, she hears news that there have been sightings of strange lights going around the sky in her area. A little while later, she says that she saw a UFO come beside her car. They had also followed her home and held her for hostage in one of the rooms. I think the story is told to show the craziness of our family and to scare the children. Santa’s Key Ever since I was little, I have always tried to catch my Mom putting presents under the Christmas tree on Christmas Eve, but I have never been successful. I have tried to get my mom to confess that Santa wasn’t real, that he was a myth, but still no luck. I have asked the question over and over again, “How does he get in the house if we don’t have a chimney?” Well, my mom has always told the kids in our family that Santa Claus has a magical key that can unlock any door at any house. Now, if I was still 5, I would believe that, but do you seriously think I will believe that he has a magic key?! I don’t think so! I think this story is told to keep the young kids believing in Santa Claus even without a chimney for him to come in through. Those were the years! (: I lived in Odessa for about a year before I moved to Texarkana. I have asked this question a lot, why Texarkana? Well, I have a grandma in De Queen, and my mom wanted to stay by family. What I recently learned about my Grandma’s land is that she has about 200 acres and the “Trail of Tears” runs through her land and that part of the land is haunted from the past Indians. Soon, I started going to school at Kilpatrick Elementary for kindergarden. Sadly, I never went to pre-k because at the time, we lived on the Arkansas side and they didn’t have pre-k as a grade. For 1st-5th grade, I went to Westlawn Elementary. I would then take $200,000 for the music I want to open when I am older. I would then buy all new marching drums for Texas Middle School and high school, because they really need them. That would probably cost around $100,000. (marching drums are not cheap!) I would also, use about $23,000 to get my dream car, a Camaro! Man, how good it would feel to drive up to school in that! Finally, I would save about $40,000 to go to my future college, Julliard. Stevie Ray Vaughan!!! Stevie Ray Vaughan was the musician of the decade in the 70s. He was an American guitarist, singer-songwriter, and record producer. Stevie is best known as a founding member and leader of the band, Double Trouble. Together with drummer Chris Layton and bassist Tommy Shannon, they ignited the blues revival of the 1980s. He is mostly known for his hit songs, “The Sky is crying”, “Texas Flood”, “Pride and Joy” and “Crossfire”. What made him so entertaining was his guitar playing. He played behind his back, with his feet, and even with his teeth! His guitar of choice was the Fender Stratocaster, his favorite being a 1963 body with a 1962 neck. On August 27, 1990, all of the musicians boarded four helicopters bound for Chicago. Despite the haze and fog in the sky, the pilots were instructed to fly over a 1000-foot ski hill. At 4:30 am, the plane they were on crashed. Vaughan suffered from multiple internal and skull injuries. The cause of death was officially stated as "exsanguination due to transverse laceration of the aorta". Marching Band!!!!!!!! The elective, band, is usually started for a young child in 6th grade. There are different instruments you can choose from; flute, trumpet, drums, and many more. In 6th grade, you pick which instrument you want then you start learning how to play it. You play the usual spring and Christmas concert and that pretty much it. The fun part starts in 7th grade, marching band! You don’t really start marching yet, but you get to play at football games and pep rallies. In 8th grade, you get to go to your first U.I.L competition. That summer, you learn to be a real band nerd. You learn how to march at freshman camp, which is by far, the funest thing you learn in your whole entire life! Then high school you get to go to way more competitions and football games and live the full experience as a band nerd!!! (: By: Emily Landers! (:
