Department: College of Pharmacy in partnership with the College of Medicine Position: Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics of Antimicrobial Agents Rank: Assistant or Associate Professor Description: The College of Pharmacy (pharmacy.osu.edu) in partnership with the College of Medicine (medicine.osu.edu) at The Ohio State University (OSU) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level to study the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics (PK/PD) of new antimicrobial drug candidates and existing antimicrobial drug regimens. This position is one of three hires in an antimicrobial discovery and optimization cluster that is part of a substantial university Discovery Themes investment to significantly enhance cutting-edge research on infectious disease detection, treatment and prevention (http://discovery.osu.edu/focusareas/infectious-diseases/). This investment builds upon existing strengths and a culture of academic collaboration to foster cross-disciplinary research with sustained global impact. The College of Pharmacy, College of Medicine, and the University provide a generous start-up package, state-of-the-art core facilities and instrumentation, a collaborative and collegial environment, multiple centers and programs in infectious disease research (microbiology.osu.edu, medicine.osu.edu/mii, cmib.osu.edu, phpid.osu.edu), and interdisciplinary graduate education programs. Moreover, Columbus offers diverse cultural and recreational opportunities, affordable housing, excellent schools and a variety of career opportunities. Qualifications: The successful candidate is anticipated to find synergy with the two other projected hires in this antimicrobial discovery and optimization cluster: an expert in systems biology to identify antimicrobial drug targets and therapeutic leads and an expert in the discovery of new antimicrobial agents derived from chemical synthesis and/or from natural products. Collaboration is also envisioned with the cadre of outstanding OSU investigators specializing in the study of clinically significant bacterial pathogens including Salmonella typhimurium, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Acinetobacter baumanni, and Mycobacterium tuberculosis. With strategic investments through this antimicrobial discovery and optimization cluster, OSU will be uniquely positioned to respond to the White House National Strategy for Combating Antibiotic Resistant Bacteria (https://www.whitehouse.gov/the-pressoffice/2015/01/27/fact-sheet-president-s-2016-budget-proposes-historic-investment-combat-a). Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. and experience working with novel drug candidates and/or PK/PD design for clinical study with a focus on anti-infectives, demonstrated research productivity, evidence of an independently-funded research program, experience working with interdisciplinary research teams, and mentoring members of underrepresented groups. Application instructions: Applications should be submitted via email as a single PDF including a CV, a research program summary and future directions, a vision statement for this position of one page or less, and a list of three references as a single pdf file to Dr. Karl Werbovetz, search committee chair, c/o Ms. Alice Gardner 1 (gardner.1067@osu.edu). Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with experience and will be negotiable.
