PLUME COLLEGE
YEAR 11 INTO YEAR 12 SUMMER TRANSITION CHALLENGE 2015
Subject:
Qualification/Level:
Examination Board
Dance
BTEC Level 3 Sub-Diploma
Edexcel
We expect students joining the Plume College to complete a transition piece of work for each subject between
the end of Key Stage 4 and the start of Key Stage 5. This is assessed and feedback given to students when they
start the courses in September. The following challenge(s) are to be completed over the summer break and
brought to your first lesson.
The Summer Transition ‘CHALLENGE’
You need to watch and evaluate a short Dance performance from three different dancers, identifying areas of strength
and areas for development in their performance. Then you will need to reconstruct the performance yourself and chart
your progress during the process, setting targets for development to refine your performance. You will need to include
photographic evidence to support your written commentary. Please use the attached documents to produce your
portfolio.

Version 3: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a1p3gRod0YY&index=14&list=PLnNXT-Uu-Odb3EU3QvwZrFnR4l3gSLoO
You will need to submit your portfolio of evidence during the first week of Year 12.
How the work produced will fit into subsequent work and the specification as a whole.
For each unit you complete on the course you will be required to produce a portfolio that evaluates your own
performance and tracks your progress. Portfolio work forms the basis of assessment and therefore it is vital you
understand how to evaluate your own and others work.
How the work should be presented.
The work can be hand written or word processed but should be completed on the template provided
Length of time expected to complete the challenge:5 hours:
 1 hour on evaluation of other dancers
 3 x 1 hour session on reconstructing solo dance including taking photographic evidence
 3 x 30 minutes sessions on writing up your evaluation of your performance
How the work will be assessed and marked:You will be awarded a Pass, Merit or Distinction
PASS
Review your own and others
performance setting basic targets.
MERIT
Review your own and others
performance setting appropriate
and achievable targets.
DISTINCTION
Thoroughly review own and others
performance setting focused and
challenging targets.
Success criteria for this challenge: Use the template provided to do your written work
 Be specific when evaluating instead of writing ‘The dancer needs to improve her flexibility’ you would need
to write ‘The dancer needs to improve her flexibility to allow her to fully execute the grand jeté action.’
 Write your three evaluations at the end of each session rather than writing all three at the end
 Take the photos during the each of the three practical sessions rather than at the end.
 Try to subject specific terminology if you know any. (Don’t panic if you don’t as you will learn this on the
course)
