Thirty-seventh Annual Rock Island Fine Arts Exhibition—Call for Entries

p.m.; closed for Easter holiday, March 29–April 3); catalog available as of April 5 reception
Co-sponsored by the Augustana College Art Museum and the Rock Island Art Guild
Eligibility
The exhibition is open to visual artists 18 years of age and older residing within an approximate
150-mile radius of the Quad Cities (excluding the metro Chicago/Cook County and Des Moines
areas). A total of two original works of visual art from all media are eligible, excepting video;
giclée reproductions are not considered to be original. Diptychs and triptychs will be counted as
one entry; portfolios, works in series or works not connected together in one frame will not be
counted as one entry. Works should not have been previously exhibited in the Rock Island Fine
Arts Exhibition.
Media that are two-dimensional and are installed on a wall may be no wider than 72 inches and
no taller than 96 inches, framed dimensions. Freestanding media must not exceed dimensions
of 30 inches height by 30 inches depth by 30 inches length. The weight limit is 100 pounds per
object. Two-dimensional entries must be framed and ready to be displayed. All works must be
identified with an appropriate label on reverse or underside. Please do not frame with glass
works that can be glazed with plexiglas; we cannot be responsible for glass breakage. Any
work requiring special installation procedures must be accompanied by clear instructions.
Juror
The 2013 juror is San Francisco Bay Area artist and writer Pamela Blotner. In her Berkeley
studio she creates sculptures and drawings reflecting on humankind's relationship to the natural
world: our beliefs, traditions and human responsibilities. In her writing and travels she examines
the survival strategies used by communities besieged by war and violence, and the ways in
which their artists respond and use visual art as a powerful tool and cultural touchstone to heal
and shape a culture and ensure its continued survival. Over the last 20 years, much of Blotner's
work has been informed by her experiences as an Illustrator/Mission Specialist on missions for
Human Rights Watch, Physicians for Human Rights, and the UC Berkeley Human Rights
Center. Blotner is an adjunct professor at John F. Kennedy University, a member of the faculty
of Pixar University at Pixar Animation Studios, a consultant to the Graduate School of Meridian
University, and an advisor to the board of Artist's Rescue Mission in Houston, Texas.

Preliminary jurying will be from digital images or 35mm. slides. Each artist may enter a
maximum of 2 works - 1 detail image of each entry allowed.
Digital: Send images only as a PC compatible, quality JPEG format on CD, with CD clearly
marked with permanent marker as to artist's name and title(s). Please do not provide images
bigger than 4 megabytes. Images should be in proper orientation for viewing, in the order of
