Responsible for general husbandry of captive sharks, rays, and tuna. Safely transport live sharks via motor boat. Manage/maintain filters and tanks. Assist in various behavioral and physiological experiments at the lab and in the field. Create online data base of feeding records of captive animals to enhance communication between the Holland lab and the Monteray Bay Aquarium and track feeding habits. Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology, Cononut Island, HI Teaching Assistant-to Dr. C.Hunter in “Field Problems in Marine Biology” through UH Manoa Assist college students in exploring the nature of field research in marine biology and conservation. Responsible for teaching and ensuring boat and water safety in Kaneohe Bay. Assist in teaching various survey techniques along patch and fringing reefs, utilization of GIS technology, fundamentals of teamwork, and proposal writing. Hawaii Oceanic Time Series (HOTS) cruise 220, Honolulu, HI Volunteer for scientific cruise to station ALOHA (A long–term Oligotrophic Habitat Assessment) January 2010 Live aboard K-O-K vessel for one week during cruise to station ALOHA located 100km north of Oahu. Work 12hr shifts preforming meteorological observation and collecting water salinity samples from sampling rosette and CTD cast at depth. Assist during deployment of the CTD. NOOA Pacific Island Fisheries Science center Intern Photo Identification of Stenella longirostris January 2010 Compile photo identification data for spinner dolphins on Hawaiian Islands to be used for habitat analysis, behavioral studies, and creation of marine protected areas. Observe and record distinguishing features for hundreds of individual dolphins. Create identification codes for new individuals, and sort photos from various sources. Use Arc GIS to visualize individuals’ movements spatially.
