1st ASSESSMENT TASK Student will make a T-Chart showing how the pollution affects us. What is land pollution? Pollution is a human action that harms the environment. Pollution has lots of types. There is Land pollution, Water pollution, Air pollution, Light pollution, Sound pollution, Thermal pollution and Visual pollution. The cause of pollution is mostly made by human actions and the effects can be really dangerous. Land Pollution happens when the land is contaminated. We chose land pollution for our main topic so we will be focusing on it. Based on the resources that we read, land pollution is a destruction of the surface of earth which is cause by human action. Sometimes land pollution could be direct or indirect as a result of human activities. Land pollution is a destruction of the land’s surfaces that attacks directly to human. (attacks is not the right word to use in this sentence) From the other resources we know that when we first think of pollution, we often think of trash by the side of the road. This type of pollution is called land pollution. Land pollution is anything that damages or contaminates the land. (www.ducksters.com/science/environment/land_pollution.phpK.) Where does the land pollution come from? These are some sources of land pollution: a. Mining: mining produce large holes and a large amount of carbon dioxide to certain land such as soil. This creates erosion and produces dangerous chemicals. b. Deforestation: trees absorb carbon dioxide from the air. Trees provide woods for humans to live and habitats for the animals in the forest. Unfortunately people cut down trees millions of trees for their wood such as construction, farming, and mining purposes. c. Producing goods: people might throw away the box, which would poison the land and make it less fertile. d. Overcrowded landfill: Landfill is a place where the land is covered with rubbish which animals may eat and get poisoned. This also makes skin problems to humans. Every day, a ton of rubbish is thrown away and makes things even worse. Positive & Negative Impacts of Land Pollution From some resources that we found, both primary and secondary resources we know that there are some positive and negative impacts of land pollution to the society and also people life. The impacts are: + - (Positive Impacts) (Negative Impacts) ● Could help the poor to get some materials to stop the rain in the shelter. ● The leaves fall down onto the soil which degrades making fertilizer for the soil ● Make a little plant pot so you could re-plant the plants. ● The rubbish can be taken and will be sold to the recycle factory to be recycled. ● Some rubbish could be reused for people. ● It can be used to be reused as bags ● It can be used as art then sold for money which will be useful for the poor. ● The Plastic could choke a random animal in the street. ● The rubbish could make the land and environment have less biodiversity. ● The glass could hurt someone or something. ● The smell could hurt someone's lungs. ● The trash could drive the animals away from their natural habitat. ● The rubbish could stop the water from getting to the plants and dry up. ● The rubbish poisons the plants and drains the food source around the animals and breaks up the food chain. ● The rubbish could drift into the ocean and hurt under water animals. ● The waste can make people get itchy SUMMARY: ● From our investigation through any web sites and also our excursion, we now know that land pollution is a very serious issue in our life. People produce the pollution. On the other side, people also get the biggest impacts of it. ● Land pollution mostly give negative impacts to our life, however some people also get some benefit from it. They can get money by sorting it then selling it. They also can recycle the rubbish into other different products. ● Based on the negative impacts, people need to take real actions to reduce the negative impacts of land pollution to the environment and people.
