Suzy.gebhart@cherokee.k12.ga.us Debra.murnan@cherokee.k12.ga.us Melissa.dudek@cherokee.k12.ga.us Bettina.miller@cherokee.k12.ga.us Math (taught by Mrs. Dudek or Mrs. Murnan): Monday: Multiplying Decimals Tuesday: Multiplying Decimals with Models and Arrays Wednesday: Decimal Multiplication with Zeros in the Product Thursday: Modeling Decimal Division with Whole Number Divisors Friday: Enrich, Review, & Reteach Reading/ ELA (taught by Ms. Miller or Mrs. Gebhart): The Daily Language Instruction focus will be on adjectives—comparative and superlative. There will be a DLI Week 12 assessment on Thursday, November 12th. We will continue our informational writing unit this week. Lessons will be over paraphrasing and proper note taking. Miller: We have begun our biography unit. Students have selected a book. They are reading it, taking an AR test, and completing a corresponding project. The due date is December 3rd. This project will incorporate informational writing. Students will begin an informational text unit. We will be working in our interactive notebooks extensively as we address main idea, supporting details, text structure, text features, and author purpose. Gebhart: Students will finish activities for their literature circle books, and we will begin our nonfiction reading unit. We will start the unit by all reading, Yellowstone 1988, Summer of Fire. Reminder: Don’t forget four more books with different genres for Reading Success will need to be complete by December 18th. *Their lit. circle book counts as one and so will one of their nonfiction books. Social\Studies with Mrs. Gebhart: Monday we will finish cattle trails and black cowboys. Students will be labeling the different trails on maps. Then we move on with famous inventors of the time. Students will describe the impact on American life the following had, as well as a few others. Wright brothers (flight), George Washington Carver (science), Alexander Graham Bell (communication), and Thomas Edison (electricity). Students will also label famous locations. Students will end the week with the rise of businesses in the US. Students will get a unit study guide on Thursday, Nov. 12th and it will be due Tuesday, Nov. 17th. Test is set for Thursday, Nov. 19th. Science with Mrs. Murnan: We will be taking our Unit test on Heredity and Traits on Tuesday, November 10. The study guide is due on Monday, November 9. Students should use their journal and text book to study for this test. We will begin a unit on electricity on Wednesday. Nov. 11- Progress Reports go home Nov. 12- Reflections reception at Bascomb Nov. 17- 4-5 Science Day (during class) Nov. 17- Social Studies Winners Fair at WHS 6pm Nov. 23-27- Thanksgiving BREAK- NO SCHOOL REMINDERS/Announcements: Supplies: Many students do not have scissors, glue sticks, and pencils in their binder pouches. Parents, please make sure they have these supplies with them. This would really help maximize instruction. Binder Organization Reminder: front pocket- HOMEWORK ONLY/ back pocket- CURRENT CLASSWORK Agenda reminder/tip: Parents should be signing each night after verification of homework being done. Thank you! Students are welcome to use electronics if the classroom is designated as a BYLD (Bring Your Learning Device) class and an agreement has been signed. However, if electronics are displayed or are in-use in a setting that is not designated as a BYLD class, a progressive discipline procedure will be followed. Please schedule doctor appointments after school if at all possible. Mondays for 5th grade are Wii in the gym bus duty days (7am- 7:30am) AIM is on Fridays for our team.
