Andrejka Bernatova I discovered my passion for finance soon after leaving college, not in small part due to its interconnection with my other two professional areas of focus: energy and emerging markets. Since then I have worked both as principal at Blackstone and Mubadala (a leading Middle East Sovereign Wealth Fund) and as an M&A advisor at Morgan Stanley and Credit Suisse. My energy focus brought me to Houston, Texas in the past year - I have lived in six countries and on five continents, but Texas is so far the most exotic place of all! I have very much enjoyed serving as a board member of my high school's - Aiglon College - alumni association where I focused on scholarship programs. In my spare times I pursue my passion for ultra races which culminated in finishing the 250 km self-sustaining Marathon des Sables race across the Sahara in April 2011. Michael Blickstead Michael Blickstead married Amrita Singh on October 16, 2011 in Sydney, Australia. Michael and Amrita met at Harvard Business School where they were both in the same section. A number of Harvard 2005 and HBS classmates were in attendance at the wedding, including Rupak Ginn, Elisa Palazzo, Arik Motskin, Ed Rogers, Greg Cook, Kern Chen, Christian Hordo, and Sergio Della Zassa. Michael and Amrita live in Sydney where Michael works in private equity for Archer Capital and Amrita works in cross border trade and seller strategy for eBay. Audrey Boguchwal I've worked in digital marketing for the past four years in New York and curated a participatory, free, public art event called FIGMENT on Governors Island. Along the way, I picked up a masters in museum anthropology from Columbia and worked for several museums. After nearly seven years in Manhattan and Brooklyn, my bags are packed for Chapel Hill, North Carolina. I will attend UNC Chapel Hill's Kenan-Flagler school to pursue an MBA in environmental sustainability. I look forward to new adventures in a new part of the country. Maura Boyce Since our five year reunion, I completed my Master in Public Policy at UC Berkeley, traveled to China, made the tough decision to leave sunny California and return to Boston, and am now working at a public-private partnership in the city. I am currently the Data Strategy Manager for Boston After School and Beyond, working to create a data platform to share data between the public schools and out of school time program providers around the city. This would enable to City to have a better understanding of how many youth are enrolled in these programs and eventually how these programs are effecting student's school attendance and performance. It is nice to be back in Boston, to run into PBHA staff at meetings, and explore the city outside of Cambridge. I look forward to connecting to other '05's also back in Boston Martha Casillas I'm happy to report that I'm enjoying living in Los Angeles and planning a wedding with my fiance Brent Kramer. I'm currently an attorney at an education law firm where I represent school districts on various issues and provide counsel to improve education. Andrew Chi Though I spend too much time on airplanes going to Internet-related engineering meetings, Harvard Square still draws me back every time. After over 10 years here, Cambridge has truly become home. But it is also a launchpad for some of the most meaningful relationships and mission trips of my life. In the summer of 2012, I will return to Pretoria, South Africa for the fourth time to teach kids math in hopes of giving them a brighter future. Perhaps someday I will go elsewhere, but the last decade in Cambridge, starting with the four years spent with all of you at Harvard, has been a critical part of my journey. Allison Colbert Quick update: This year I branched out at Avalere to start a new team focused on the Commercial Impact of Regulatory Policy, namely how the FDA's use of clinical evidence is evolving. It's been a lot of work, but a lot of fun too! I snuck away in March to watch the Crimson March Madness out in Albuquerque, which was a blast despite the game's outcome. I still get back up to Cambridge frequently through my work with the HAA, so I'd love to see you if you're in the area and/or hear your ideas on alumni engagement. Please let me know if you're ever in DC; I'm also planning trips this year to NC, NY, CT, ME, FL, and hopefully somewhere further-flung (suggestions welcome!) Kelsey Corlett-Rivera Kelsey Corlett-Rivera graduated with a Master's in Library Science from the University of Maryland in May, 2012, and will begin work there as the Librarian for the School of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures in June. Angelica Crane Annie Crane ('05) and Richard Dosik are proud to announce the birth of their baby boy Theodore Eliot Crane Dosik. Teddy was born on December 19, 2011 weighing 7 lb., 10 oz. Mom, dad and baby Teddy are doing very well! Bronwen Everill I've had a busy few years since reunion! I finished my PhD at King's College London in 2010; got a postdoctoral fellowship at Oxford; spent more time in the archives in Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Kenya; started running more seriously; and married Jonathan Gorrie (Oxford, '04 and '07) in April 2011. A number of Harvard alumni were in attendance at the American reception, including Julia Twarog ('05-'06), Amelia Lester ('05), Ruchi Saha ('06, MBA '11), Edgar Thomas ('05), Julie (Goldman) Weinfeld ('05), Dave Weinfeld ('05), Josh Barro ('05), Mike Abbriano ('05), Melissa Conway Abbriano ('05), and Max Nicholas ('05, JD '08). John Horsfield-Bradbury (JD '08) and Simona (Topor Pop) Malton ('05) were in attendance at the London reception. We still live in London, and I commute to work at Warwick University where I'm now Assistant Professor in Global History. Tiffany Fisher (maiden name Egnaczyk) Living in Chicago raising two boys, Xavier, 2 years old, and Oliver born 3/13/2012. Kaitlin Gallo After 7 years as a proctor, I’m finally moving out of the Yard. Wigglesworth was great, but my husband Chris and I are thrilled to move to NYC this summer, where I have a position in the psychiatry department at Weill Cornell. At first, we weren’t sure if we were ready to live in Manhattan, but then we remembered that famous saying about Wigglesworth: if you can make it there, you’ll make it anywhere. We look forward to reconnecting with NY-dwelling Harvard friends, so call me maybe! Cat Gillespie Since our last reunion, I have completed my Ph.D. in Classical Studies at the University of Pennsylvania. I will be staying in Philly to teach, and look forward to seeing you all soon! Zachary Goldman Zachary Goldman will marry Stephanie Adamowicz on July 1, 2012. Beginning in the summer of 2012, he will become the Director of the Center on Law and Security at NYU School of Law. Luz Isabel Gonzalez (now De Anda) On February 8, 2012 my husband, David, and I were blessed with our first child: Miguel Isaac De Anda. A week before his birth, I was hospitalized with a blood infection. During my seven day hospitalization, I thought, “I may meet my Maker today. Am I ready?” As I remembered my sins, how I have broken the Ten Commandments, the fear of hell overwhelmed me. I opened a hymnal and read a verse of “It Is Well with My Soul,” by Horatio Spafford: “My sin, not in part but the whole, was nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more…” I had peace as God reminded me I was forgiven and redeemed. The apostle Paul encapsulates what I was reminded of, the good news, the glorious Gospel: For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope—the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good (Titus 2:11-14). ARE YOU READY TO MEET YOUR MAKER? I pray you take the time to seek Him with all your heart. I pray you would soon, very soon, ask for forgiveness and surrender your life to Jesus Christ, for He is worthy. Our fellow alum, Phillips Brooks, gave our Savior a fitting title: Jesus Christ, the condescension of divinity and the exaltation of humanity. Jacob Gordon Graduated with M.S. in Biomedical Forensic Sciences from Boston University School of Medicine Stephanie Hendricks Not too much to update from our 5 year reunion. I am still living in Boston; however, I did transition to a new career and I am very excited about it. After working for J&J for almost 2 year, I realized I loved the company and the people, but not the actual job. I spent about 7 months speaking with a variety of people and finally ended up taking a job with a small technology firm in the energy industry, PowerAdvocate. The company and people are wonderful and I love my job! I am the liaison between the clients and the company. I get to work with people from every department of our company as well as our clients. Every day is different and I am really excited to be part of this firm! Anna Himmelrich I am getting married to Matt Kozlov '04 on May 27. We live in Los Angeles but are having the wedding in my native Baltimore. At the wedding, we expect a robust Harvard presence, including Laura Miller '05, Katie O'Brien '04, Clark Rosensweig '05, Matt Ferrante '05, Michael Nitsch '04, Dave Stein '04, Marc Manara '04, Ganesh Sitaraman '04, Ethan Abraham '04, Peyton Sherwood '04, Joe Green '05, Warren Adler '04, Jennifer Axsom Adler '04, Matt Mazzeo '05, Beth Novey '05, Lauren Bettinelli Whitlock '05, Lauren Stefanchik Nervi '05, Frances Cheever '05, Valerie Beilenson '07, and Caleb Rabinowitz (Columbia class of ’05 but began undergraduate at Harvard)…And that's just our generation and includes no graduate degrees. Ashley Horan Ashley graduated in May 2012 with her Master of Divinity from Meadville Lombard Theological School in Chicago, IL, and was granted fellowship as a Unitarian Universalist Minister this year. After serving as the Summer Minister at the First Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Ann Arbor, MI, Ashley will serve congregations in the Chicago area. She lives in Chicago with her partner, Rev. Karen Hutt, and their daughter, Elizabeth (12). Colleen Horan I've switched cities yet again: I've been in Philadelphia doing my MBA at Wharton since the Reunion, and am now gearing up for the time-honored post-graduation move to New York (albeit seven years later than most of you). Peggy Hsu Graduated from University of Tennessee, College of Veterinary Medicine May 2012 with DVM. Working on MPH and will graduate in July 2012. Comissioned as Captain in U.S. Army Veterinary Corps and will be stationed in Fort Stewart, GA in October 2012 Joe Jackson I ignored all of the reminder emails to write a five year update and immediately regretted it upon receiving the famous red book. I'm not making that mistake again. After spending five years in San Francisco following graduation, I returned to Harvard in the fall of 2010 to get my MBA. As I write this, I sit in my apartment on the banks of the Charles River, in the shadow of Dunster House (I now have some inkling of what college life might have been like had I not thankfully been quadded), counting down the days until I graduate from this place one last time. Harvard has been good to me, even more so the second time around. It is here that I met my wife-to-be! Her name is Kaelin Goulet, and she is a classmate of mine in the HBS class of 2012. We met a couple of months into business school, and I knew very quickly that she was the woman with whom I wanted to spend the rest of my life. She crushes me intellectually, cracks me up, mesmerizes me with her grace and charm, and makes every day a joy. In short, she makes me a better and happier person, and I could not be more excited to build our life together. In just a few weeks, we'll be off to San Francisco, degrees in hand. We have obviously gotten much more than we could have reasonably expected out of business school, and we're both thrilled to get out to California, settle into our new home, and start our new jobs. It is an immensely joyful time for us and for me, and I am savoring every minute of it. Erica Jalli I married John Doran ’00 on August 27, 2011 at the Harvard Club in New York City. Several ’05 classmates attended, including bridesmaids Alexandra Johnson Cercone, Heather Higgins, and Ashley Ma, as well as Amanda Baird, Christina Chen, Andrew Fichte, Meredith Finn, Michael Firestone, Colleen Horan, Teddy Jones and Felipe Velasquez. John and I are currently based in London and I will be finishing my MBA at INSEAD in France in December. Please let me know if you ever find yourself in London or Paris. Aaron Joachim Right now, I am living in Arlington, VA (right outside of DC). I am in the last year in my term as a Presidential Management Fellow at the Office of Management and Budget, where I work on a project to improve the management of the Federal Government's real estate inventory. Next time you're in DC, give me a call (617-821-1046 ....same number since college) and I will take you around town to the places with the best burgers, the best shawarma, and the best margaritas! Teddy Jones Teddy Jones graduated from the Darden School of Business in May and will be working on a software project in Charlottesville, Virginia on a fellowship from the Batten Institute for the summer. Stephanie Kendall Kang We welcomed twin boys - Sebastian and Theodore - last December. Their very different personalities are starting to emerge, and we are loving being a family of four. Joy Lin Having covered Mike Huckabee for CBS News in 2008, I was once again a campaign embed this election cycle, following Newt Gingrich's unconventional run on behalf of Fox News. I was there with my camera rolling when Gingrich won the South Carolina primary, doubled down on his vision of a moon colony at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Alabama, and pet an elephant at the zoo in New Orleans. Newtisms, like promises to bring gas to $2.50 a gallon and ideas to raise money by selling algae desk sets, made the every day filing experience memorable. I never expected to hear about Saul Alinsky on a daily basis again after I graduated with a Social Studies degree. Now that Gingrich has dropped out of the race, I'm a White House producer for the network and I look forward to covering the president during the general election. Meanwhile, with the help of my fiance and my parents, I've been planning a wedding in Seattle. I'm marrying Trevor Chan on June 16 at the Arctic Club and look forward to celebrating the occasion with my blockmates and fellow Cabot House alumni. Chaandi McGruder '05 Cabot is the awesome Maid of Honor; Jennie Lin '05 Pfoho, Carla Borras '05 Cabot are the stunning bridesmaids. Ashley Ma It's been wonderful being back home in New York, and I've recently moved into my own apartment in Gramercy, a neighborhood where I seem to be surrounded by other recent grads. I've now been at GCA Savvian Advisors for almost two years and was promoted to Vice President in Jan. 2012. The firm is an independent investment bank focused on growth sectors, particularly technology, consumer & retail, and healthcare, and I'm spending most of my time advising on M&A transactions, as well as assisting with our business development efforts in the digital meda and eCommerce segments. Outside the office, I'm active with the New York Junior League where I currently serve as a Vice Chair of our biggest annual fundraiser, the Winter Ball. Between banking and volunteering, whatever spare time is left goes to seeing friends and taking advantage of the city. Andrew Magliozzi Andrew recently authored a guidebook about the college admissions process, titled How to Get into (Your) Harvard, with help from a team of former Ivy League admissions officers at his company, Veritas Tutors. You can purchase the book or download a preview at YourHarvard.com. ToniMarie Marchioni ToniMarie Marchioni received her Doctor of Musical Arts degree from The Juilliard School in May. In June, she also completes a 2-year fellowship in Carnegie Hall's prestigious program, The Academy/Ensemble ACJW, a groundbreaking new initiative that combines chamber music performance, leadership, advocacy, and work in New York City public school music programs. Whitney Martinko I'll be receiving my PhD in History from the University of Virginia in December 2012 and will be assuming a postdoctoral fellowship at the National Museum of American History, Smithsonian Institution, at the beginning of 2013. I look forward to reconnecting with classmates in the Washington, D.C., area next year! Arik Motskin Arik Motskin received a PhD in Computational and Mathematical Engineering from Stanford University in 2010, and has been at Google, working on the secret sauce behind its search algorithms, ever since. He is engaged to be married to the wonderful Laura Garnick and currently resides in San Mateo, California. Matthew Mulder For the last couple of years I have been a stay-at-home dad. My wife Amara and I have two little ones now, Micah and Eliza. It has been a lot of fun and a lot of work learning how to be a parent. We are living in Boston, in the Fort Hill neighborhood in Roxbury, and really enjoying it. The zoo and the beach are favorite destinations, and we have discovered that the whole family shares the same enthusiasm for ice cream. I have also been helping with children's church, trying to help tackle the trash problem in our neighborhood, and keeping the books for a group I belong to that raises money for a clinic in Kenya. Sarah Inez Persing Sarah and Oren Persing were thrilled to welcome their son, Liyam Judah, on April 27, 2012. T. Josiah Pertz I'll be moving to Strasbourg, France for a year in September to work at the European Court of Human Rights. If anyone's in the area, come say hello. Shanon Peter I am starting my final year of internal medicine residency at Stanford, and having a great time with some side projects including cardiology research and a clinical rotation in South Africa. I am happily engaged to Tiffany Hogan, who I met the first day of med school in 2006 - but was unfortunately too chicken to ask out until AFTER we both graduated to residencies in different cities! While the SF-LA shuttling can be exhausting, we are looking forward to being together permanently after our wedding next spring, in which fellow '05-ers JP Jacquet, Edward Sohn and Rolando Perez will be my groomsmen. I love running into '05 folks, so please get in touch if your find yourself in the Bay! Joshua Rosenbloom After an a wonderful 5 years in Cambridge, I am graduating from HMS in May 2012 and we are off to Baltimore where I will begin residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Maryland Medical Center. My wife Judy (HSDM '11) will be working at a non-profit dental center in downtown Baltimore, and our eighteen-month old daughter Nesya will be starting preschool. We are sad to be leaving Winthrop House, where we have been resident tutors for the past three years, but are excited to move back home. We'd love to catch up with classmates in Baltimore or the DC area, so email me at rosenbloom@post.harvard.edu Sam Sanker I got engaged in April 2010, one month before our 5th Reunion, to Elizabeth Sanker (nee Maguire ’08). We were married on August 28, 2010 at sunrise in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park in Southern California. We spent our honeymoon hiking and camping in both AnzaBorrego and Joshua Tree National Park. In May 2011, I left Harvard Medical School and started a new job as the Director of Planned and Major Gifts at the YMCA of the North Shore in Massachusetts. I do fundraising for 6 YMCAs north of Boston. My wife and I are traveling to northern England in June to hike a portion of the Pennine Way. Maggie Shipstead I'm sending this update two weeks before my first novel is published, which means, classmates, that I'm spending a lot of time hiding fearfully under the bed. I plan to stay there at least until it's in paperback. The book is called Seating Arrangements. It's also being published in the UK, places that used to be British colonies, and some other European countries. In France, the title is Plan de Table, and in Italy it's Festa di Nozze, and I'm pretty excited to find out what it'll be called in German and Dutch. Maybe there's a German word for when you have to sit next to someone you don't like. Barnes and Noble chose the book as their summer B&N Recommends selection--bless their hearts. Otherwise, since I finished a two-year fellowship at Stanford in June, I seem to be in a nomadic phase. I spend a month in Bali in the fall, then I was in Paris for three months on an artist residency at the Cite Internationale des Arts and in Edinburgh for a month after that. All of these places are very nice places, and during that time I wrote a second novel that's mostly about ballet. On a whim, I came back from Europe on the Queen Mary 2. Steaming into New York Harbor and seeing the Statue of Liberty after six days of nothing but ocean was a thrill. The travel has been wonderful, but I miss my Harvard friends something fierce. Best wishes to all. Emily Stapleton I was happy to return to Cambridge this spring for my 1-year Harvard Business School reunion, and I am glad the Class of 2005 can at least catch up virtually! Last summer I started working for an HBS-founded start-up called RelayRides, which is a peer-to-peer car sharing marketplace. We recently launched nationally, so I hope you sign up and try sharing a car with their neighbor. Not only does my move to San Francisco enable me to pursue my passion for passenger transportation, it also provides a playground for all the sporty things I enjoy: triathlon, camping, dancing, and yoga. I'm looking forward to visiting London for the Olympics this summer and would love to catch up with anyone else who's attending. Will be thinking of my swimmer friends while I'm there and will likely be sending real-time updates to my 10 blockmates, who I'm still in touch with frequently, and for whom I am so grateful! Stephen Stromberg After three and a half years in an editor's chair, I was appointed to The Washington Post's editorial board as a full-time editorial writer, which means I should be in D.C. for a while. If you are ever in town, drop me a line. Brandon Terry I have been appointed as a Prize Fellow in History, Economics, and Politics at Harvard, beginning July 1, 2012. While at Harvard, I will be working on my first book, a philosophical interrogation of the historiography of the civil rights movement and the force of its example in contemporary political theory. I will also be serving as a resident tutor affiliated with Lowell House and living in DeWolfe. In 2014, I will conclude my fellowship and begin a tenure-track appointment as Assistant Professor of Political Science at the University of Chicago where I will be running the university workshop on African American Studies. Please be in touch if you're ever back visiting Cambridge! Noah Welch Got married June 18, 2011. Extremely blessed to be married to Alissa Postma from Red Deer, Alberta Canada. Since graduating played professional hockey for 3 American Hockey League teams, 4 National Hockey League teams, and 2 Swedish Elite League teams. In the hockey off season my wife and I split time between living in the country riding horses and quads, in Alberta and in the North End, Boston eating Regina Pizza. Pursuing business ventures in Ghana, West Africa with good friend and classmate from Harvard. Considering going back to school for a Masters in Theology. No kids yet but God willing we will have them. We are hoping to have enough for a little league baseball team or at least to fill the infield. Kanoe Lum Williams Thanks for reaching out to all of us. Ben Williams '04 and I got married last summer in Hawaii. Other Harvard people in attendance: Daryk Pengelly '03, Will Holmgren '04, Ravi Mehta '03, Shantanu Dhaka '07, Pia Desai '07, and Katherine Gelber '07. Damien Wint My wife and I welcomed Ella Harper Wint into the world on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 3:16 AM. At birth, she weighed 6lbs. 12 oz. (just like her father) and was tall (most certainly not like her father) -- stretching the measuring tape out to a full 21 inches. Mother, father, and their pride and joy are all happy, healthy, and adjusting to new sleeping patterns. (N.B.: If you don't want me to annoyingly shove wallet sized photos of Ella in your face, stay at least 100 yards away from me at all times. You have been warned.) Minhua Zhang Minhua Zhang ('05 Leverett) and Beidi Gu ('05 Dunster) gave birth to their first child Guyang Charlie Zhang in the early morning of September 11th in New York City. The parents enjoy bringing Charlie to meet their classmates over weekend brunches from time to time.
