Celebrating a Week of Respect at HMR
October 1, 2012 – October 5, 2012
The Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights Act designates the week beginning the first Monday in October of each year as
a “Week of Respect” in the entire state of New Jersey. School districts are directed to observe the week by
providing age-appropriate instruction focusing on preventing harassment, intimidation, or bullying. High
Mountain Road School’s activities for the Week of Respect are outlined below.
o Have You Filled a Bucket Today? A Guide to Daily Happiness for Kids
School Wide Assembly, October 1st at 9:30AM
 Mrs. Bajzath will introduce the Bucket Filler Program to the HMR community through a
school wide read aloud. Classes will sit on the floor (no chairs necessary) in a semicircle. The school community will then learn more about our school-wide bucket filler
initiative, including bucket filling, dipping and keeping your lid on! This assembly will be
approximately 20 minutes in length.
 Each class will also receive a copy of Have You Filled a Bucket Today? A Guide to Daily
Happiness for Kids, which can be reread in the classroom, during class meeting. Then
the book will be sent home on a rotating schedule with each student. The book will have
a cover letter inside of the book jacket to engage families in discussion on this topic.
o Design Your Class Bucket, October 1st during your Class Meeting
 Classes will leave the assembly with a bucket and materials to design your own
classroom bucket! These will then be displayed in the hallway and students, teachers,
and staff will be able to record the ways we have filled each others buckets.
 At the close of each school day, three examples will be randomly drawn from the
buckets and read aloud to the school.
 At the end of the week, the classroom with the fullest bucket will earn an extra recess
with Mrs. Bajzath and participate in a Bucket Filler Relay Race!
o Mix-It-Up at Lunch Day: Thursday, October 4th
 Students will be given new seats in the cafeteria in order to foster new
relationships and expand social boundaries.
o Bucket Filling Pledge: Friday, October 5th
Students will take the Bucket Filling Pledge with their class during class meeting. These will
be sent home with students to show parents the promise they have made.
o School Spirit Day: Friday, October 5th
Dress in RED, WHITE and BLUE to show respect for our veterans and those in the armed
forces.
o Classroom Activities on Respect
Class Meetings throughout the week will focus on respect in multiple ways. See below for a full
