UNDERGRADUATE or GRADUATE STUDENTS: SCIENCE, ENGINEERING AMERICAN METEOROLOGICAL SOCIETY SCHOLARSHIPS/FELLOWSHIPS Application available Sept. 2009; due Feb. 5, 2010. Overview: The American Meteorological Society administers an array of graduate fellowships and undergraduate scholarships with the support of its members, corporations, and government agencies nationwide. The fellowships and scholarships help further the education of outstanding graduate and undergraduate students pursuing a career in the atmospheric and related oceanic or hydrologic sciences. AMS/Industry Minority Scholarships AMS Freshman Undergraduate Scholarship AMS Undergraduate Scholarships AMS Industry/Government Graduate Fellowships AMS/Industry Minority Scholarships 2-year scholarship for $3,000 per year Minority students entering their freshman year in Fall 2010 AMS Freshman Undergraduate Scholarship The scholarship stipend is $5000, awarding $2500 each year (for the freshman and sophomore years). Eligibility: o Applicants must be U.S. citizens or hold permanent resident status. o Applicants must be entering their freshman year of college in the fall of 2009 as a full-time student and plan to pursue a degree in the atmospheric or related oceanic or hydrologic sciences. o Students eligible to apply for both the AMS Minority Scholarship Program and the AMS Freshman Scholarship Program may apply to both programs, but may only accept one AMS scholarship. AMS Undergraduate Scholarships Number and amount of scholarships vary. Eligibility: o Scholarships are available to full-time students entering their final year of undergraduate study in the fall of 2009. o Applicants must be majoring in the atmospheric or related oceanic or hydrologic science, and/or must show clear intent to make the atmospheric or related sciences their career. o Applicants must be enrolled full time in an accredited U.S. institution, and must have a cumulative grade-point average of at least a 3.25 on a scale of 4.0 at the time of application. AMS Industry/Government Graduate Fellowships Fellowships are sponsored by industry leaders and government agencies and are designed to attract promising young scientists to prepare for careers in the atmospheric and related oceanic and hydrologic fields. $23,000 stipend for a nine-month period Eligibility: Applicants must be entering their first year of graduate school in the fall of 2009 and provide evidence of acceptance as a full-time student at an accredited U.S. institution at the time of the award. Applicants must pursue a related full-time course of study in the atmospheric or related oceanic or hydrologic sciences over a full academic year. Applicants must have a minimum grade point average of 3.25 on a 4.0-point scale. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or hold permanent resident status.
