Internet Search Strategies Note: Insert keywords, such as occupations, industries, or majors in place of the examples below in order to individualize your Google searches. 1. Search for internship within a field or industry. For example, let’s look for internships in the field of animation. The use of the “~” sign tells Google to search all synonyms. In Google, search for the following: animation ~internships animation inurl:internships allintitle:animation internship(s) 2. Use forums, discussion boards or industry chat sites to inquire about internships. In Google, do a search on: Animation internships forum 3. Use an industry “portal”, “database” or “professional association” sites to watch career videos or obtain career information. In Google, do a search on: Cellular biology career information society Geographer association ~careers 4. Use industry databases to locate companies within the industry. In Google, do a search on the following: Animation database allintitle:* industry database 5. Use web directories to locate career and industry information. Go to Google Directory and search on the following string using the words in order as they appear: Science>Earth Science>Geology>Organizations 6. Locate a local professional association for the marketing industry. Go to Google and begin by doing do a search on the following: Marketing association OR Society; locate local chapters, and then the one near or in Sacramento, ca Choose an industry and find the local chapter of the national organization.
