Alcott PTSA’s After School Activities Registration December 17st – January 15th This year the PTSA is offering the following activities before and after school. Your child can acquire new skills through well-designed, fun-filled, and interactive classes, all taught at Alcott. The classes fill up quickly and are first-come, first serve. Check AlcottPTSA.org for the updates. Kindergartners are not permitted to attend after school activities Classes will begin the 1st week of January and run through the end of school year. The PTSA will charge a 5% fee for any cancellations of registrations for After School Activities. This fee does not apply when classes are cancelled due to insufficient class sizes. This fee does not include cancellation fees assessed by the provider of the after school activity. Art Club Taught by Stephanie Allgood, Art Club will explore the world of art using a variety of media such as pencil, watercolor, acrylics, oil pastels, paper mache, and more. Cost: $200 Classes: REGISTRATION OPENS IN JANUARY Monday: Tuesdays: TBD Tuesdays: TBD *PTSA requires a parent volunteer to attend each class Bricks4Kidz This one hour class will introduce your child to the world of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math by covering fascinating topics such as Space, Inventions, Life Science, Energy and many more! Cost: $175 Classes: Mondays from 3:35 to 4:35 Chess4Life Chess Club is a professionally-run, after school chess program for students who want to learn how to play chess or increase their knowledge of the game. All skill-levels welcome! Coaches divide the club according to skill and/or grade. Students receive formal instruction combined with various learning activities, along with structures play time. Cost: $159 Classes: Thursdays from 3:35-4:45 for grades 1-5 Cartooniversity Cartooning is a great way for kids to practice their drawing skills and learn to tell stories without words. Multiple fun projects are designed to have students learn the many aspects of cartoon drawing including character development, expressions, action/movement, layout, background, perspective and much more. The classes, taught by local editorial cartoonist Jeff Johnson, emphasize developing each child’s own style in a positive, encouraging environment. Cost: $100 Classes: Tuesdays from 7:50 to 8:50am for grades 2-5 Coding Club In Techventure Kid’s SCRATCH Coding Club, kids explore how to design and program their own games and animations, using MIT’s SCRATCH 2.0 drag and drop programming environment. Engaged in fun coding projects, mini challenges and a BIG PROJECT, students exercise STEM skills in reasoning, math, design and problem-solving. Students are encouraged to collaborate and present their projects to others. This club is open to all levels, beginner – advanced. Cost:$235 Classes: Fridays from 3:35 to 5:05 for grades 3-5 Registration begins December 21st at AlcottPTSA.org Ellipsis Math Ellipsis Math provides opportunities for mathletes to advance their math skills. Programs are available by grade level and will review fundamental math skills from basic integers operations to fractions and decimals. The program focuses on math topics and practices that will advance students’ math skills and prepare them to compete in local and state competitions. Tuition does not include competition fees. Cost: TBD Classes: REGISTRATION OPENS IN JANUARY Wednesday from 2:05 to 3:20 for 5th grade Friday from 3:35 to 4:50 for 3rd and 4th grade French Club Lessons are constructed around five elements for elementary: Total Physical Response activities, songs, games, crafts and culture. All vocabularies are included in the songs. A class by class progressive system is utilized to introduce new materials while constantly reviewing what has been learned in previous classes. Different themes such as part of the body, foods, animals, school/home objects, clothing, and a lot more. Cost: $255+ $20 one time text book/material fee Classes: Wednesdays from 7:50-8:50 for grades 1-5 Guitar Lessons Dace’s Rock N’ More Academy is back. Learn beginning guitar with founder and president of Dace's Rock 'n' More Music Academy, Dace Anderson. Guitars will be provided in class. Cost: TBD Classes: Teusdays from 7:50-8:50am for grades 3-5 Mad Science Looking to spark imaginative learning after school? We offer hands-on science programs as part of your afterschool programming this year! Children engage in exciting hands-on activities, watch spectacular demonstrations, participate in inquiry-based discussions and take home things that they have made themselves like model rockets, periscopes, Mad Science putty, and more! Our hands-on, one-hour science programs are themed around a particular area of science and include such topics as electricity, magnetism, optics, biology and many more. Piano Lessons A group piano lesson is an opportunity to introduce a child to the piano and piano techniques without all the commitment. The purpose of the course is to introduce basic piano skills. Cost:TBD Classes: TBD Wednesday Mornings – 8:00 – 8:45 Spanish Club Lessons are constructed around five elements for elementary: Total Physical Response activities, songs, games, crafts and culture. All vocabularies are included in the songs. The curriculum is carefully designed to introduce children with new vocabulary and their correct pronunciation. Different themes such as part of the body, foods, animals, school/home objects, clothing, and a lot more. We’ll explore character creation through improvisation, theater games, and scenes work. We will build an encouraging environment in which to play! On our last day of class, we will have a final presentation to showcase the skills we developed. Family and friends are encouraged to come to the presentation.
