Section 2: Why is School Literacy Plan Needed (Purpose)
A focus on literacy improvement is necessary for Scotland Early College High
School to ensure that we graduate students who are fully knowledgeable in
multiple literacies. It is our duty to equip our graduates with the knowledge to
use reading, writing, listening, and cognitive strategies to learn across the
academic disciplines. Further, SEarCH graduates will be able to teach others,
who need to know, successfully execute tasks in digital environments, think
critically, evaluate, and analyze information, and actively participate in their own
knowledge production. Literacy improvement is also necessary to produce
graduates who are prepared to participate in a global, technologically advanced
economy. Literary is a blueprint for raising student achievement, increasing
informed citizenry, producing self-directed lifelong learners, and creating critical
thinkers.
