The Bureau of Meteorology is Australia's national weather, climate and water agency. Its expertise
and services assist Australians in dealing with the harsh realities of their natural environment,
including droughts, floods, fires, storms, tsunami and tropical cyclones. Through regular forecasts,
warnings, monitoring and advice spanning the Australian region and Antarctic territory, the Bureau
provides one of the fundamental and most widely used services of government.
The Bureau contributes to national social, economic, cultural and environmental goals by providing
observational, meteorological, hydrological and oceanographic services and by undertaking research
into science and environment related issues in support of its operations and services.
Under the Federal Government’s Water for the Future program, the role of the Bureau of Meteorology
was expanded to manage Australia’s water information.
We are seeking to engage an experienced professional to lead the Bureau’s water data modelling
activities. This is an exciting opportunity to manage the ongoing development and support of Water
Data Transfer Format (WDTF) information models, and related documentation and supporting tools.
Success in this role requires an excellent balance of technical knowledge, team leadership, project
management and stakeholder liaison skills to ensure deliverables are of high quality and align with
stakeholder needs.
The position is located in either Melbourne or Canberra with interstate travel.
