The title of my project: Smart Toilet Diagnostics (S.T.D) School: Dominica Seventh Day Adventist Secondary School Address: Glanvillia Portsmouth Phone Number: 445-4564 Name of Student: Aullisha Robin Name of teacher: Ms. Ernesta Burnette Problem statement: There are a number of people in the community who are obese and diabetic. These people in most cases, only become aware when they are into the late stages where almost it nothing can be done about it. Diabetes is a condition where there is too much glucose (sugar) in the blood. This situation is very dangerous to the body and usually causes death if proper care isn’t taken of one’s body. Introduction of the STD will be a simple and affordable way to alert everyone of their health conditions as it relates to sugar levels. Numerous young/middle aged women as well as men are obese which leads to diabetes. Statistics shows that a large cross section of the community is affected by diabetes due to the lack of awareness. I strongly believe that the STD will keep people alert of what is happening and it will reduce the amount of obese and diabetic people in the community. Also this project will help assist people who are disable and may need hospitality and find it too far, so the STD will be beneficial to them. Objectives of the project: The set of objectives that I have in mind to address the problems are: creating a toilet which will be affordable and accessible to everyone in my community and the rest of Dominica by extension. Creating a toilet which is able to monitor an individual’s glucose levels (blood sugar) and BMI. conduct seminars to enlighten the public of the importance of monitoring their sugar level Create and establish the S.T.D which will result in the decrease in the number of deaths caused by obesity and diabetes. Proposed to the solution: This project is based on a toilet that checks one’s Blood Glucose and their weight, including their BMI. This is specially named the Smart Toilet Diagnostics (STD). Due to the vital activities it performs, STD will be beneficial to people in the home, community and even worldwide. It may lower the risk of death around the world due to its smartness which may keep people alert of their blood sugar and BMI. STD works automatically if one sets it to be and may switch modes if it’s to be done manually. This project will be readily available to many people especially those who may be disabled and are in need of it. It will be affordable so anyone will be able to buy it. Younger persons will also be encouraged to purchase the STD so that they could be aware of their health conditions and not be caught off guard. I grantee that the money spent for this project will be worth spending. There are different materials which will be used to construct this project as follows: Mat Blood Glucose Meter Smart Toilet Diagnostics White paint Wood Scale White Pipe There’s something called a sample catcher which is found in the bowl that can obtain the urine samples. It displays to you how your glucose (sugar) level has been fluctuating. These trends can help diabetics’ time insulin shots. Smart Toilet Diagnostics is perhaps surprisingly, one of the precursors to the common use of the greatest technology. Pictures of the Smart Toilet Diagnostics: A glucose meter (or glucometer) is a medical device for determining the approximate concentration of glucose in the blood. This is the instrument which is being place inside the toilet bowl where ones urine will fall directly on it which will enable it to read ones glucose level. Picture of a glucose meter: The scale which is placed as a mat when going to use the toilet is used to check one’s BMI (Body Mass Index). Picture of scales which may be used: The competition: The Smart Toilet Diagnostics (STD) is the most unique project anyone will ever see. Since it performs so many wonderful and amazing tasks that no one would ever expect a toilet to do. This toilet will be very affordable though it does a number of things. Also this toilet will be beneficial to anyone, and any place especially in hospitals where most sick people are, so this project will also reduce the amount of work one does in the hospital. It also will decrease the amount of young and aging people who are dying because of different health problems such as Diabetes and Obesity. This project will also be very efficient rather than the normal toilet, which is plain and cannot offer all these extravagant duties such as the Smart Toilet Diagnostics. Resources Needed: Resources Needed Price US$ List of people & their Vat 44.3% expertise Wood 28.90 1 Wood work Pipes 60.95 1 plumbing Scale and blood glucose 40.95 1 Nursing White paint 10 1 carpenter Mat 5 ------------------- meter Timetable: Tasks Performed by Amount of time Purchase materials for Student and teacher 3 days Building the toilet Student and carpentry 3 weeks Attachment of different Student and teacher 1 week Student 1day toilet items to toilet Paint and attach pipe to toilet Use of STEM: Science: When the sample catcher gets the urine it is then tested by the blood glucose meter which further tells the person about there glucose level and the scale which is used to weigh the person, this also incorporates with science. Technology: The use of digital meters and monitors to show results of tests. Information could also be stored in the system to recall data for comparison. Engineering: The construction of the STD. Mathematics: The use of weight and age to calculate BMI. Individuals’ age will be placed in the system initially. Community involvement and community impacts: My classmates may help me prepare fliers and help me implement it at the hospital or at interested individuals’ homes for tryouts. Surveys can be done which can be carried out within my community and enlist the assistance of your village council chairman and the district schools to bring home the idea to their parents. Also, incorporate the different ministries which would be responsible for health to explore my idea which will create awareness within neighboring countries and in effect go regional. The Smart Toilet Diagnostics will be beneficial to hospitals and everyone in the community. At the end, many people in the community will be saved, there’ll be more healthy people in the community and the rate of death will decrease thoroughly.
