Nurse Practitioner NP Job Description: Vascular and Interventional Radiology FLSA Status: Exempt Department: Clinical Reports To: Clinic Manager Job Summary: The Nurse Practitioner provides professional primary or specialty health care services within an outpatient Interventional Radiology Center in collaboration with the Clinical Director in accordance with policies and procedures. Educational Requirements: Master’s graduate of an accredited NP Educational Program by the ACR-NP. Current Texas RN license/registration by the National Council Licensure Examination – Registered Nurses (NCFLEX-RN) Along with a current Texas Advance Practice Nurse Prescriber License including all associated requirements for medical education, testing and logging of CME. Qualifications and Experience: Minimum of two years of experience in a physician’s office or hospital setting Ability to make independent decisions regarding patient care Procedural experience; preferably assisting Interventional Radiologists Skilled in surgical techniques Experienced in diagnosis and treatment of common medical conditions Basic working knowledge of managed care and Medicare population Excellent communication skills Core Competencies: Interpersonal skills – Approachable, able to establish rapport easily, demonstrates empathy and active listening skills Collaboration - Ability to work within a team setting and leverage strengths of others to accomplish objectives Drive – Self-starter with initiative to assist in practice development, and to create motivation within the clinic team Responsibilities: Consultation: Obtain thorough patient history, performs focused physical examination, formulates treatment plan and documents findings in the patient's electronic medical record Demonstrate basic understanding of venous ultrasound and basic surgical skills Review pre-procedure instructions, explains procedure and review procedural risks and benefits with the patient Obtain vascular access and perform conservative therapy evaluations, microsurgical phlebectomy, ultrasound guided sclerotherapy and visual sclerotherapy Maintain prompt and timely communication with referring clinicians and patients (i.e. sends follow up letters, thank you letters and return patients calls) Educate and counsel patients and distribute educational materials Document within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and complete other necessary documents Demonstrate actions of a team player – assist peers with documentation and case load, provide vacation coverage for peers and offer overall support when appropriate In partnership with the Clinic Director, demonstrates ownership in established home clinic a) Champions Hamilton Vein Center mission, vision and values WARMTH TEAMWORK TRANSPARENCY INITIATIVE Nurse Practitioner b) Assists in growth of clinic through practice development; Build relationships within Hamilton Vein Center, with referring physicians and with healthcare providers c) Fosters and maintains a network of referring providers that entrust you with new and existing patients to evaluate and treat d) Leads the clinic team by example, including, but not limited to: working after hours when clinic needs necessitate; traveling upon request or need; displaying a positive attitude; maintaining and encouraging employee development, teaching and guidance e) Attends dinners, networking events and education for referring providers and patients associated with your clinic; Support these activities in other centers when appropriate f) Draws from own strengths to creatively drive the clinic’s quality, growth and health initiatives g) Develops and leverages the other clinical staff at your clinic to aide your ability to focus on patients and prioritize work h) Proactively monitors patient schedules for proper staffing and communicates needs or adjustments when appropriate From time to time, act as a backup in dressing wounds, measuring and applying stocking post procedure Perform/assist in minor procedures if needed such as thyroid biopsy, PICC, angiogram, etc. Participate in professional development activities and maintain professional affiliations Maintain CPR and ACLS certifications Support the practice in research studies Perform in other tasks and projects as assigned Typical Physical Demands: Position requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, as well as manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Involves standing and walking. Employee will occasionally be asked to lift and carry items weighing up to 30 pounds or moving patients. Normal visual acuity and hearing are required. Typical Working Conditions: Employee may have exposure to communicable diseases, body fluid, toxic substances, chemotherapy, radiation exposure and other conditions common to a clinical environment.
